Samsung sure is taking its punch line pretty seriously; at least as far as its R220 Mobile phone is concerned. Well I happened to use the newly bought R220, from February onwards and almost every fortnight I am invited to the Samsung service centre, for one snag or the other???. Well that?s what they tell us, EVERY ONE?S INVITED.

The Phone:

The phone in it self is sleek, trendy and has soft and comfortably sized touchpad. The comfort and grip of holding the phone and working on the key pad is pretty smooth, as compared to the small phones of other companies. The designing and the jazzy light displays of the screen as well as the connection indicator LCD, is well thought of. But the software in use in the phone is a serious dampener, with a technical snag, software hanging and data loss being the prime culprits. Even the usage of the various features is pretty convoluted and the menu list is confusing. The ring tone volumes are not for the driving time, as they are not loud enough and the musical notes of few songs also not satisfactory. The phone also does not have a composer so you can receive the tones but can not create your own, or send one to your friend. The T9 dictionary function though is well equipped and satisfactory. The area info or cell info services are also not activated in the phone. Features of call diverting and conferencing are also not empowered in the set.

The Connectivity:

As for the connectivity, well there is a small incidence that I can present to say the least of it. I work in a multi-storied building with many research instruments and heavy electrical interferences. I had this R220, while my friend had Nokia-3310. Both with same service provider and of the same series. My dad wished to inform me of the very important news that was of great urgency, and he kept calling while my phone was continuously unreachable, his one attempt at the friend?s phone had it ringing. And since then I have noticed this discrepancy a numerous number of time. Whenever the network is pressed the phone gets unreachable. And the talking quality at the time of peak hours is always fragmented as if talking in a digital analog.

Technical Performance:

Well from adapter to connector to battery, all have been replaced or repaired once. As I had earlier said the software for the phone is certainly incompetent. The Charger specifically is so delicate that it can not survive one very slight fluctuation, or journey in the comforts of cushioned suitcase. Every time I go to the Samsung service centre for the replacement they say, its in the way I keep it or the fluctuations in my house electricity. Well I have tried every way the instruction manual says to keep it and the ways the instructor at Samsung centre told me, and believe me I have given my charger for replacement for the 4th time today. As for the reasons of the snag, the centre staff, engineer and I myself am are in complete dark. But if the explanations that have come from the staff have to be believed then I can only say this much that the Samsung has failed to read India and Indian conditions well, cause my Dad?s Nokia charger has not gone out once, under the same conditions from last 2 years. And believe me he travels far more than I do.

Customer Care:

I have very serious complaints on this front. First the staff here at the Lucknow centre is very ill behaved and the complaint here is treated as a mistake on the part of the customer for which he needs to be scolded. And if you don?t know much about the cell phone you can very well end up paying for the services that you should be getting free. Secondly the staff here is certainly short on strength, considering the amount of the complaints that these men get. They hardly, have enough man power to keep the customer smiling and services quick. I happened to notice a balloon of Samsung today at their customer care centre. It said SPEED, SURE, SMILE??. CUSTOMER SATISFACTION!!

Well all I have to say is that, there is absolutely no speed in their functioning, no surety of the quality of servicing and products and absolutely no reason to smile at what Samsung gives us. And as for customer satisfaction, just forget it.

Well my vote for the Samsung R-220 mobile phone is simple??? It?s a pain I bought for Rs. 4000. Seriously not recommended.
