After months of dithering, I finally decided to shell out and buy a flat screen TV.
But, on the first visit to the TV showroom, I was overwhelmed by the choices and the vast array of abbreviations that surround these flat screens. LCD, LED, 3D, XVID, Plasma and goodness knows what else. Unable to decide, I returned home and did some research on the net and found that Samsung LCDs are a good bet. Otherwise they all look pretty much the same
So, I marched into the store, and asked to see Samsungs.
Finally, I settled on Series 5 LCD LA40C550 based on the following criteria
a) My wife thought it looks good. That was the first and most crucial selection factor.
b) The price was within my range(50 K). Ok it was a bit more than I wanted to spend
c) The picture looked pretty nice
Brought it home and installed it. It looks great, sounds great and is very clear. My room somehow looks bigger than it used to when we had the conventional TV. It looks much better when you view DVDs with HD quality pics.
A couple of drawbacks
a) I have not yet figured out all the buttons on the remote
b) I think there is some kind of time lag between the remote button being pressed and the response.
c) I could not play pictures off the USB.
Overall, I am happy with the product and I think you can buy it. It seems to have become cheaper lately(if the Diwali ads are to be believed). But then all electronic goods become cheaper after I shell out money for them. Its like the stock market.
