My Needs:
I already have an 3 year old HTC phone which stills serves my purpose, I use it has my official number and can receive emails and all... I needed another number for personal use and hence another phone...didn't want to spend much money on that.
Basic phone with good battery backup, FM Radio, a torch, and if possible MP3 player under Rs. 2000..
Search:
My Initial Search started online and came across one Nokia phone with Wireless Radio. I liked it and wanted to check it out in the shop. Its looks were bad and so decided not to go for it. Then, the shopkeeper showed me the Samsung 1160 GURU. It looks good and body plastics looked very strong. The dual speakers kind of attracted me. Key pad was good except for the navigation keys, especially the up and down keys which is very thin and bit difficult to access and press.
Battery backup is good, or that's what shopkeeper and specs claim. I believe the battery backup(Talk time), if not 12 hours should be good for at least 8 hours which is very good for me.
I didnt spend much time thinking on to buy or not. I just bought it immediately.
After using it for about 5 hours, here is my view on the product:
Things that I like:
1) The Calender gives Week numbers (Wk1, Wk2, .....) which is very good for me.
2) Radio sound quality is good, I mean its loud. But signal reception is low and some channels have noise, but when used in 5th floor, the reception is better. I guess we have to give up some features for the sake of Internal Antenna. But not bad at all.... Good Radio.
3) Voice call clarity is very good. Speaker phone is also good. Remember the Dual speakers???
4) Fake Call is a wonderful and surprising feature. Just press and hold down the down arrow key and that will activate fake call and in predetermined time interval you get a fake call. You can escape from meetings, unwanted conversations, etc...
5) Torch light is bit low in light, but I guess is enough for searching something in that dark
6) Radio reminders: You can set reminders for certain channels as timers. That means, you can have reminders for your favourite programs in Radio. I guess, why didnt they make it as a clock radio instead, where the Radio turns on automatically when the alrm goes off.
7) I havent tested the Battery Backup.... but will use it for some more time and will let you all know.
The features that would have made this phone much better.
1) Recording from Radio (I know low cost samsung mobiles have this feature and was good to have a radio clip as ring tone)
2) No Voice recording.
3) Easy access buttons for Radio (though it has option for changing channels from handsfree)
4) .....
Uh!! I dont want to complain anymore about this product. Its worth buying
