Bought a Samsung Tab E 9.6 inch tablet last week for my wife as she was straining her eyes watching videos on her 6 inch phablet(Xolo Q2500). She wanted a tablet as a replacement since she was using a Samsung S3 as the main communication device. The option for calling in the tablet was just a plus.
We will be using the tablet to browse internet \ use SM(Whatsapp\Twitter\FB) and watch videos. In our family, we have many samsung products at home(Laptop; TV(CRT and LED); Refrigerator; Air conditioner; 5 Samsung mobiles - Note2, S3, 2 A7s and Guru) and obviously my spouse was reluctant to explore the competitors for TabE.
Result: Purchased a sub-par product for INR 17, 500.00
Spec:
Screen Size: 24.34cms(9.6 inch)
RAM: 1.5 GB
Storage: 8GB
Voice Call: Yes
Rear Camera: 5 MP & Front Camera: 2 MP
Warranty Period: 12 Months Brand Warranty
Color: White
Pros:
Good screen size with nice 16:9 format
Excellent resolution(esp. watching the HD videos in rich colors are quite nice)
Decent Battery power(5000 mAh)
3G sim slot(micro sim)
Expandable memory upto 128GB
Call facility
Cons:
8GB inbuilt memory
1.5GB RAM(it hangs from day one even while we are just going thru different options in Android UI)
Battery while watching HD movies are not great. Watching HD movie(Real Steel) on WiFi for~2hrs reduced the battery from 76% to 49%
Poor sound quality. If you are room with absolute silence, you'd be able to hear the voice clearly thru the speakers. In comparison, my Note2 is much louder than TabE!
Overheats often when using resource-heavy apps(Most big games are out of question)
Pricey for the features(when compared with better spec Lenovo, Asus, iBall etc)
Note:
a. The architecture of Tab E 9.6 is infact ditto of On7 with a larger screen and larger battery capacity. You can get to see that even the Home\return buttons at the bottom are placed exactly where you find them on On7.
b. Must have accessories:
Headphones:(some cheap headphones were supplied as gift by Croma store. However, better to buy a good headphone from Panasonic\Philips\Sony\JBL etc.). Approx INR 500.00
Screen Guard: Good quality tempered glass screen guard. Approx INR 450.00 incl. sticking it on to the screen
Case with stand: A good quality case which had help the device survive small bumps or falls. Approx INR 700.00
Conclusion: If you are not particular about a brand, always look at the competition and make the right choice. I honestly do not believe that a company with such diversified portfolio could do well in all its products. Samsung is quite good with the screen quality and make good televisions and mobile phones. But they need to understand the customer need on many other products, including Tablets. Their competition is this range is NOT an iPhone, but the Lenovos\Asus\Acers of the world.who manage to deliver solid products at similar price point.
