The Galaxy S8 must have felt like a bit of a paradox for Samsung engineers, execs, and marketers. This is the phone they hope will wipe the Note 7 off everyone's mind, but at the same time the S8 is a clear continuation of the Note 7's design cues. I admire the patience of tech writers who went into detail explaining the symmetrical curves of the S8 in their reviews. Me? I ain't got that endurance, so I'll keep it short and to the point: The S8 looks and feels just like the Note 7, except it has slimmer bezels, no physical home button, a really stupidly-placed fingerprint reader and no stylus. The device's front almost looks like it's entirely screen, with no buttons. It's a look that LG actually achieve back in 2014 with the G3, but Samsung's curved screen and all-black aesthetics do make the device look even better.

( I tested retail units of the S8 and the S8+ for close to a week, but for the sake of simplicity I'll just refer to the devices as S8, but everything applies to the S8+ unless stated otherwise.)

In fact, a lot of the features first introduced in the Note 7 - iris scanner; a less-trash TouchWiz; ability to record a portion of the screen and turn the action into a gif - have made their way to the S8 too. When one considers that the Note 7 had such a short life span due to premature death, that makes the S8 almost like the Note 7 remix.

This isn't a knock. The Note 7 was, in my opinion, the best feeling/designed hardware of last year. The phone's all black look ( including black metal frame) was sleek and sexy as hell; and the improved angle of the dual-curved screen made for a lot less erroneous touches than the gimmicky Edge screens of S6 and S7. The AMOLED panel on the Note 7 was stunning - use a black wallpaper and the icons look like they're popping out of the screen. All of the above applies to the S8, except the screen is more immersive.

thanks for going through my review

regards : )
