The device is fully similar to the s8 is all aspects except screen size which is bigger on s8+ and the battery S8 plus have 3500 mAH battery all the other specs are same and the performance of both device is same
Pros
First thing that you'll notice about the device is styling you have to look at the device if you haven't in personal I would suggest go to local store and have a look this is the best looking smartphone that I have ever seen and yes it's having curved design and due to that it actually feel very good to hold in terms of looks and styling I would say samsung has done a knock out job. so in terms of looks the device is 10 out of 10 as of now this is the best looking smartphone that you get
the device came up with the super AMOLED display. It has a different aspect ratio its not very wide the regular smartphones that comes with 16:9 screen ratio. This is 18.5:9 hence it's a lot taller . Initially you feel a little bit weird but trust me after 2 days you will get use to it and you will really appreciate it Samsung calls it the infinity display and I have to say the display quality on this device is top notch one of the best display that we have seen . Another good thing is that even in direct sunlight this display was easily visible so again full marks to Samsung for the display panel that they have used on this device
The Next thing I like about this device is it is having a always on display even you have always on display option the battery doesn't drain that much so I like the fact that we have that always on display
Moving to the User Interface Samsung has used a new kind of UI and they are No longer calling it touchwiz but they are calling it the new samsung experience UI and I have to say this the most polished version of the samsung UI that I have seen it sort of minimalistic in nature and for the most part it works very well so again I would say this is if you call it touchwiz it's the best alteration of the touchwiz that samsung has used it doesn't feel bloated or anything like that so a very refined UI that they have put on this device
cellular call quality and the sound reception I have used it on airtel 4G and JIO and I haven't faced any issues regarding cellular call quality on this device that is very good and the earpiece is also very good on this device and the calls were clear and loud and moving to the speaker though it has a single speaker not a stereo speaker but the speaker output is actually very good and I did quite a calls using speakerphone and I have no issues regarding that . I also tested with music the speaker volume is very loud and clear so issues regarding the speaker and again its a single speaker not a stereo speaker
Battery life of the device is very good I was getting about 5 hours to 6 hours screen on time with my typical moderate heavy usage
Camera the rear facing camera specs haven't changed a lot compared to the s7 if you are expecting huge improvements in the camera performance as compared to samsung galaxy s7 from the rear facing camera that's not the case but the galaxy s7 had a very good camera and the camera performance of the device was really good but moving to the front camera samsung samsung has done a very good job it is really improved it is 8MP shooter and I have to say that the selfie you take with the front camera comes out to be very good so samsung has really improved the front facing camera among the flagships . I have to say front facing camera is one .
Now Moving to the types of unlocking methods of this device is you notice the fingerprint scanner of the device is on the backside of the device and it's very close to the camera
as it has bigger screen than s8 is a bit more tall than the s8 you can reach to the fingerprint on s8 but have to struggle with this s8+ even with the days of usage I have to struggle with the location of the fingerprint scanner yes you have other unlocking methods for example
the IRIS scanner and also face unlock
IRIS SCANNER works well but in the public places use of iris scanner sort of impractical because you have to hold the device near to your face to unlock it.
FACE UNLOCK is also a unlocking method and I must say the face unlocking is very quick but again it is not the very secure if you have photo of the person and you can place it in the front of the phone it can be defeated so if you are a very security paranoid using the face unlock is not a good option you have to use iris scanners or the fingerprint scanner so again the not the best implementation and location for fingerprint scanner
Even the device has having a 6.2 inch screen you might think it is uncomfortable to hold it in a single hand that's not the case it's very comfortable to hold it in the single grip the phone because phone is simply not that wide
The device doesn't heat up even with the heavy usage and heavy gaming for extended period of time the device doesn't exhibit any overheating issues that again big plus point for this device
the device is completely water resistance so if it actually fall in water you don't have to worry about the same
It has Bluetooth 5 with bluetooth 5 you can pair it with two devices simultaneously but even with the devices that don't have Bluetooth support the pairing process was so fast on this device the fastest pairing that I have seen
Cons
The whole device has the glass in front you have the glass in back you have the glass the main point is you can easily get scratches with this with device you have to be really careful with it not to put keys in pocket when putting this phone in your pocket
Bixby functionality samsung talked a lot about this in their presentation in fact they also have dedicated button for the bixby but as of now I have say that the bixby functionality is not that great and in fact the google assistant and google now is far much better than Bixby also samsung has given a dedicated button for the bixby and as of now they are not allowing officially to remap this button to anything else
This might be only applicable to the Exynos version of the samsung because it comes with the new mali GPU I did my gaming and in terms of gaming with casual and mid range games the device had no issues it play those games fine
but with the heavy games I did notice some lags specially in asphalt 8 This might be due to the reason exynos variant and its using Malli New GPU and it might not be optimized the thing is that many of the high end games optimized for the adreno GPU that comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon processors
- The ram management has done very well be comes to the price range of the device it comes with with the 4GB of RAM I would say samsung should put 6GB of RAM it not the RAM management is bad or deal breaker but after sometimes I have noticed after 5-6 apps the apps tend to reload that couldn't have happened if the RAM is 6GB considering the price of the device
