Samsung Galaxy Note series has been a standard-setter since its 2nd generation. First generation model was an experimental product which people loved and the response was very good. Since then Samsung haven't looked back and improved the product with every new generation of Note series.
Lets have a look at the hardware, software, design and features of Samsumg Galaxy Note 3.
OS: - It has Android OS v5.0 Lollipop. If not, it is upgradable. Also it has Samsung's touch wiz user interface which is very fluid.
Processor: - For Indian market device comes with Exynos 5 Octa 5420 chipset with 4 cores of Cortex A15 clocked at 1.9 GH & 4 cores of Cortex A7 clocked at 1.7 GHz. The processor is not true octa-core i.e. not all 8 cores are active at the same time. The A15 cores are activated when playing high graphics game or any other heavy software and the A7 cores are activated when low processing power is required
GPU: - Mali- T628 MP6 which is compatible with Exynos chipset and has no problem while playing high graphics games.
Screen: - It has a 5.7 Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels ith 396 ppi pixel density which offers. The screen is very bright and has great viewing angles.
Network: - The Indian version is only 3G. The Exynos 5 chipset does not support 4G. Today even low end devices are 4G but the coverage of 4G pan India is very less and Note 3 is still almost at par as far as network is concerned. The network reception quality is very good and I have not faced any problem for more than 2 years.
Memory: - It has 32 GB internal and it can be expanded up to 64 GB. Plus it has 3 GB RAM which is more than sufficient for any task.
Camera: - It has a 13 MP primary camera with autofocus & flash and a 1.9 MP secondary camera. The primary camera can record 1080p videos at 60 & 30 fps and 720p videos at 120, 60 & 30 fps. The video and picture quality is very good. The pictures( selfies!) from secondary camera are quite good too.
Battery: - It has a 3200 mAh battery which offers very good backup. Moreover it is a removable battery which is a plus point.
It has WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual band, Wi-Fi direct, DLNA, hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0, NFC, Infrared sensor for remote control functionality and a microUSB 3.0 for fast data transfer.
It also has a lot of sensors like accelerometer, gyro, barometer, temperature, proximity, humidity, compass, gesture.
The main feature of Note is its S pen which is improves over its predecessors and offers a lot of functions for writing, editing, drawing, sketching etc.
The disadvantages are
It lacks 4K video capture. But still 1080p videos are great too and unless you have 4K resolution TV that is useless.
Screen size is large which could make it difficult to use for many users. Samsung through its software user interface has provided a reduced screen function which helps for single hand operation.
No Optical Image Stabilisation.
No FM Radio.
Overall it is great device to have with the kind od features it offers. It can cost you around Rs. 17k to 19k in todays date.
