That depends on what is most important for you to have in a phone. I've had the Note 3 for 4 months now, and it's still an outstanding phone. The s-pen and size sets it apart from other android phones.
I went with the Note 3 instead of the Note 4 because 1) it's cheaper, and 2) I knew for certain that my Tracfone service would work. With normal usage, the Note 3 performs just as well as current flagship phones. The screen quality is not the sharpest in the market, but it's still sharp enough for most people. However, if you want your phone to be supported longer ( i.e. security updates, OS upgrades) , then it would make sense to buy a newer phone ( Note 4, Note 5, Edge, and etc) .
