I bought this Digital camera (Samsung ES10) in September 2009 because I was using a Samsung fino film camera for 5 years. I had no complaints about the earlier camera and just wanted to buy a digital camera because nobody was using an analog (film) camera anymore. Even the shop assistant at the studio gave me a queer look when I went to develop and print film rolls.
I have a brand loyalty to Samsung as I have a Samsung TV and fridge for nearly 6 years now and they have not given me any trouble till now. So when I saw an ad in the newspaper by Sri Vasavi stores for Samsung digital camera for Rs.4995.
I decided to go for it. I went to the tiny Velachery showroom and was shown the camera. the price was quoted as 5200(4995+taxes).When I asked the salesperson that they had advertised a lower price he smartly gave me the reply that taxes are included under 'terms & conditions apply'. I did not bargain further and bought the camera. A 2GB SD card, pouch, battery charger+2 alkaline batteries were given along with the camera. Additionally I bought a screen guard for the LCD display for Rs.250.
Samsung ES10 is an 8.1 MP camera. This is more than sufficient for general amateur use. MP (megapixels) matter only if one is going to enlarge/blow-up pictures. As I am not going to enlarge my pictures beyond maxi size I thought that even 8MP was not necessary. It has 3X optical zoom.The Samsung ES10 has an auto sensitivity feature that automatically adjusts sensitivity according to the ambient exposure conditions up to ISO 1600. The high sensitivity setting of ISO 1600 lets you take clearer pictures, in poor lighting conditions, without camera shake or image blurring.Powerful video recordings is enabled by supporting 3x optical zoom, VGA resolution at 640 X 480. Video editing capabilities (Pause during recording, Still Image Capture) enable expression of various images.
The size of LCD displayis 2.5" (6.4cm) and is good for normal use.
The camera has a lot of other useful features like Digital Image Stabilization, Multiple Face detection, Red eye detection, Self Portrait etc, but it is best to use it in auto mode for general use. The image qualtiy is much better than my old film camera. Only problem was taking pictures against the light. I found out that one has to use the backlight mode, fill in flash etc to take pictures against the light. The design of the camera itself is very compact and stylish. The camera can be directly connected to TV for viewing pictures. It can also be connected to the computer using a cable provided for transferring images.
A software CD for editing photos and user manual is also provided. It is useful to read the manual (pdf file) thoroughly before using the camera. In conclusion the camera is definitely worth the money I paid.
