The Samsung Corby Plus is a perfect example of how NOT to create a mobile. This cute beauty (I discovered later, only in looks) has all the trappings of a failed product.I bought this mobile in the first place on the recommendation of my friend who said it had a superb touch interface as well as a sliding QWERTY keyboard to go with it, and that it was not too heavy on the pocket (I got it for 8200, market price @10, 000).The touch screen caused me no end of problems. If I dialed a number that required you to enter another number from an option (for instance, dial 9 for assistance) I found that after the number was dialed, the touchscreen locked itself. I realised this was so that when you pressed your phone to the ear inadvertently, you avoid pressing any other number on the touch screen. But to dial the "9", again I had to unlock the phone(a side button does that trick) and with the touchscreen active, all sorts of actions took place such as my ear pressing "1" on the touchscreen which took me to another menu on the dialed number.

Of course I could do all this by locking the touch screen and  manually using the QWERTY keyboard, but imagine someone talking on a phone with the slider open!I solved this problem by locking the touchscreen after selecting all the correct options on the dialled number menu. But the problem that really irked me was that when you took the phone out of your pocket when it rang, somehow always the "end call" button got pressed. You see, this corby phone does not have the usual "start call" and "stop call" buttons. Instead at the bottom of the  touchscreen there is a thin strip of metal that can be depressed at either ends. So you see, every time when I took the phone, the lever got depressed as luck would have it  and the incoming call got terminated. I got into the habit of replying to all these "missed" calls! On the other end of the spectrum the control got pressed when I folded my hands over the pocket. Two such pressing actions on the lever and a call is under way!I was surprised when I was sitting next to me talking to a colleague at office and my friend got a call and to my astonishment, he looked at his phone and said it was my call. I looked at my phone, and indeed again inadvertently I had dialled my friend's number by repeatedly depressing the call control unknowingly.Later I realised that this could be avoided by locking the mobile before I put it into my pocket. But my miseries didn't end there. While travelling by train, I found that the mobile was losing charge, so I switched it off. However soon enough the mobile booted itself when my hand pressed against my pant pocket. Taking it as a one off thing, I shut down the mobile once again. But soon enough after a while somehow some control got pressed and pronto! - the mobile was in action again. When this happened three times on that single journey, I thought enough was enough and decided to decomission my new Samsung Corby Pro.Somehow if you manage to escape the misadventures with the lever like controls I had(for example a lady could put it in her handbag without much trouble I guess), still one has to deal with the absence of a joystick control. I found that  to move up, down, left.. I had to open the QWERTY keyboard and use the up, down, left... keys. But this was no solution. If you want to select a contact from your contact list, you need to use the tricky touchscreen, which most often will not do what you want it to do. Imagine opening the keyboard slider and using the down arrow key to slide down the list, select the contact, push the slider keyboard in again, and then talk. By that time the person on the other end would be almost sure to hang up!SO it was not Samsung making the device user friendly, it was me learning what Samsung was upto with the Corby!Never buy this stuff. You will regret it from day one! I still have this thing with me. If  anyone wants it, I am ready to pass it on for free - on one condition, he must not throw it away after a day's misadventures!
