This is my first review on Mouth Shut.com and it happens to be a negative review on what happens to be the hot selling product in our country, mobile phones. People in our country tend to keep silent as long as things work well but the minute things go wrong, there is a loud uproar! Well I am one among them :-) The Samsung C160 is my 5th phone I five years.
my first mobile was a reliable, nokia 3315, in my 1st year of college (2003). infact this phone was passed down from my dad who had used this phone for a year already. my dad uses mobiles to a minimal. 3315 is the most reliable phone I have ever used in the past 5 years.
These are the list of phone and the details why I changed them before I start my review on the Samsung C160.
1) Nokia 3315 June 2003 to February 2005 ( my dad had used to from October 2002)
Reason of change, bored of using same mobile for 3years and had changed battery once and when time for the second replacment was due, I decided to go in for a new mobile.
2) Nokia 2600 February 2005 to February 2006
Reason of change, my mom had bought a Nokia 3100, so switched mobile with her as she didnt know how to use GPRS. infact my mom still uses Nokia 2600. its 2 years and 6 months old.
3) Nokia 3100 February 2006 to January 2007
Reason of change, gave my sister this mobile for a short period of 15 days and used a Nokia 6600. she spoke for 100 hours flat in just 15 days! the mobile refused to work after I got it on my hands!
4) Nokia 3120 January 2007 to May 2007
Reason of change, this mobile fell from my hand by mistake and refused to work! but I would rate Nokia 3315 and Nokia 3100 are the best mobiles I have used till date.
5) Samsung C160 May 2007 to Gonna change it very soon!!!
HERE STARTS MY REVIEW ON THE SAMSUNG C160
FEATURES:
Looks, weight and dimensions: Samsung phone have the best looks in any category. I guess no one can deny this. Even the C160 is very sleek and very handy. it easily fits into our pant pockets and even the tighest of jeans pockets with ease. as we all know indians tend to carry mobiles in our shirt pocket. well C160 is extremely light and its for the common man who tends to carry it in shirt pockets. as for the girls! forget your designer pouches. this phone will definitely fit into your smallest of smallest purses. its very handy and small phone to carry! but beware, the phone being so light might interest pick pockets ( but their comes Mobile trackker). my Samsung C160 mobile is full black and looks very trendy!
Mobile trackker: Till date, (thank god!) I have never lost a single mobile! I have activated this feature on my mobile. I havent heard from other people who use the same feature ( mobile trackker ) on other samsung models. guess thieves are scared to steal samsung mobiles! But I think this feature is very good! Hats off to Samsung!
Keypad: The keypad is well spaced out and the quality is very good. but the keys are a bit hard to type. at times when you want to type out that message in tension or in a hurry at a signal, watch out! your fingers will definitely pain!
Wallpapers and Screensavers: Behold! this mobile has only one wallpaper and no screen savers! even the 3315 had non-animated screen savers. dude, my 2600 had animated screen savers!
Ringtones and message tones: There are 16 ringtones and 4 message tones. They are loud and pierce your ears at time! but its very clear in crowded buses of tamilnadu, especially when the driver thinks he is a pilot and blasts FM so loud even the person on a bus 1km can hear it clearly!
Games: for all those mobile gammers. this mobile has no games! ever heard of a mobile which has no games?even my 3315 had games, I think 3 of them!
Memory: This mobile has a whopping 461KB of memory ( Just joking! ). Even my 3100 had 1MB of inbuilt memory. obviously this phone has no external memory card slot.
GPRS: This mobile has good class 10 GPRS. the highlight of this phone is GPRS. the connection is quick and pretty good.
Screen: The screen is small and I feel its smaller than my 3100 and even my 2600. but the quality is very good.
Battery: I am a heavy user of my phone. send a lot of message, roughly 100 a day and speak atleast for an hour. My battery lasts for two days without a single charge. battery life is very good.
HERE COME THE PROBLEMS.
( 1 ) The mobile automatically goes into silent mode atleast 20 times a day. silent mode in the sense, to lowest ring volume of one. dont know why this happens. I have to restart the mobile to set back to original sound as the ring volume would still show 5 but would sound only 1 and hence on restarting the mobile solves the problem.
( 2 ) When the inbox gets full and as and when we are clearing the inbox, thats is using delete all messages, and if we get a message ( say for instance 1 message ) while the deletion is happening. after the inbox gets cleared the count will show 0. we have to restart the mobile to set the mobile back to normal when it would show the count as 1.
( 3 ) When we are typing out a message and if we get a call. after we complete the call. I face the same problem as in point ( 1 ).
( 4 ) If we receive a message and instead of view button we press another button, I face the same problem as in point ( 1 ).
(5) The phone hangs for no reason when we speak.
Imagine the main reason we buy a mobile is to speak and message. If basic features like ring volume and message volume and on top of this if the phone hangs during a call, what the use of having this phone.
the sole reason I am having this phone is its just 3 months since I bought this phone and my parents would refuse to buy me another one :-(
NEVER EVER GO FOR A SAMSUNG C160!
