I visited Salzburg from September 14 to 17, 2012. I stayed at Hoter Meininger, which I highly recommend due to its central location, reasonable price, cleaniness, guest kitchen (free to use). We visited various places in and around Salzburg like Mirabell garderns, Fort Hohenfestang, Ice caves(highly recommended), Werfen, etc.
If you are visiting Austria, keep good number of days for Salzburg- Innsbruck is avoidable. Would visit again and plan to visit country side like St Gilgen which I missed this time.
