Salaam namaste is about as realistic as it gets in describing the indians living in australia, it shows the lives and ambitions of people who live in australia and find it hard to understand both the different cultures and adjust to them.

if you have ever lived in australia, LIVED not visited as on holiday then you will be able to identify with it and its storyline. everything shown in the film is so typical and realistic, right from the number plate of nikhil's (saif) car to the fridge used in their house, and even the indian landlord who has an aussie wife. if you have ever lived in australia then you are going to love this film, as it as realistic a portrayal of life in melbourne as it can be. if you have not, then you are still going to love it coz of the great localed, wonderful shots and the vibrant energy and fresh look of the film as a whole.

now to the story - its about ambar(preity) and nik(saif) who both work in melbourne for their own amibitions. preity works at a radio station, and also is a medical student whereas saif is a chef at a restaurant. both of them meet under strange circumstances, and what happens is typical fimi-style. all this is okay till they decide to move in together..

they live happily, they adjust to each other, they fall in love and they do all the things that live-in couples are supposed to do. everything is fine until ambar finds out that she is pregnant. this is where the turning point arrives ! after this it gets a bit irritating - preity being pregnant the baby with her and nick telling her that he cant marry her, and they still live in the same house, they cry they fight and nick does nothing to support preity and preity cries and and so on.

then as time goes by, nick decides to be a bit more caring. and with advice from arshad warshi, who acts great in the film, nick decides that he should be more supportive and helps preity around, and when preity is a few days away from delivery saif starts to realize that he loves her and is ready to settle down.

then the usual filmi scene, in the hospital and then saif proposes to preity and then lots of confusion and stuff. even abhishek bachchan gets in the act and causes even more confusion and in the end the twin babies are delivered and they live happily ever after.

all said and done, some things do seem very unbelievable throughout the film, most important being that preity is 8months pregnant, still she can dance and play and fight like a healthy and fit 25yr old! the scenes at the end of the film do seem a bit stretched and are out of tune with reality.

if you wanna see a good film with a good story (1st half only) then go see this film. if you have ever lived in australia then dont miss it for anything coz then you will wanna go back again! and if you wanna ever go to australia then still see this film as it will tempt you to be there asap.

a word of caution - dont watch this film with the conservative members of your family, coz the fact that a couple live together and then the girl gets pregnant and the guy refuses to support her inspite of living in the same house wont go down very well with a conservative audience. and it shouldnt too !
