To begin with, salaam namaste is not a regular bollywood masala flick. regardless, it has a fair chunk of enjoyable moments and funny sequences to proclaim itself an "entertainer", with some good emotions to sustain the interest through out.

the story line is a bit modern and path breaking for indian cinema and the script is quite well handled [ though said to be a cut to cut copy of 9 months ]

ok agreed, that some of the scenes may be a tad too whacked out for an average cine goer. but with a fastidious pace and competent performances, anyone dare call it "tedious" or "boring" ?

totally shot in sydney and other parts of australia, the film makes for a greatly delightful sight. the frames and the lenses used show the varied thinking of the modern film makers. siddharth raj anand, who co wrote hum tum and assisted kunal kohli, shows a few imprints of his work , esp. while executing the argument sequences between nikhil [ saif ali khan ] and ambar [ preity ]. the situations and the characters are authentis enough to label the movie as a realistic one whic makes salaam namastre a winner.

all said and done, the last half an hour was not well handled esp. as compared to the pre interval sequences. the most memorable moment was the one whennikhil after much adamance takes preity out at midnight just because she wanted to have an icecream. that scene touched a chord and lingers in one's mind long there after.

another highlight og the film is a strong performance platform. saif ali kahn shows great strength as an actor, along with a pleasing appearance on screen. preity wers off her bubbly image and performs brilliantly. [ she did that again later in KANK perfectly ]. arshad warsi does a jig from his last fewer roles and succeeds to an extent in raising a few laughs. tania zetta had nothing much to do though.

coming to the music, the songs are above average but candidly, they wernt required all that much. [ although "my dil goes hmmm" was beautifully filmed and placed in the screenplay ] the lyricist for a change blends hindi and english to explain the blooming romance of the lead pair.

a far cry from the yash raj territory, salaam namaste is a breezy change for it does deserves cachets. depicting the ideologies and the rebelling mindsets of our young generation, SALAAM NAMASTE can be easily termed as a niche film. kudos to raj anand for he has dared to be different on his debut ebndeavour. he really explores a new kinda film making that may just lead to others jumping in the band wagon too.

cheers
