Dont miss this one... Review on Salaam Namaste

When my friend said these days movie cd’s are available while the movie is under production, we just laughed…. Now there are more than 18 review of a movie just after 3 days of its release!!!!!!! Guess what he said could be true.. :-D

Well, wat d heck... Would put down mine too… haina..:-P

Had to go 4 this mvie alone as my frnd cldnt make it… smthng inside me said.. “DO NOT miss this one”.,. and that smthng was absolutely right!!!!

Although, had to put up with a huge crowd… there was certain delay for the movie to begin..a boy, around 7 yrs old would not believe that it was 7.20pm.. he said how could it be.. “abhi movie shuru nahi hua”!!! then I got a seat between.. Mr.& Mrs. We-will-do-what-the –lead-actors-would-do… (they would smooch everytime.. Preity and Saif would!!! Public display of affection is ok.. but do they need to disturb the rest..) And on the other side 2 “dudes” who were happy that they dint bring their ma along.. and kept repeating that every now and then…I guess they were too glad…well this movie certainly has an overtly westernized storyline.. thus it could be recommended for a mature audience..

Storyline

It’s a copy.. no am sorry.. Its INSPIRED from Hugh Grant – Julianne Moore starrer 9 months.. there are elements of “Friends” ( Saif - Arshad share Joey – Chandler sort of friendship, they even have the lazy bug chair scene…) and “When harry met sally” thrown in.. (the part where Ambar enjoys her Choclate Ice Cream at the restaurant.. wld remind u of the Meg Ryan scene) BASICALLY the dude falls in love with the dudette… asks her to live with him.. (separate rooms at first.. but very soon one room.. then again separate rooms) but is afraid of committing to marriage and kids.. and ultimately realizes he cant live without her.. so everything ends up well.. as all’s well.. very well..

Going by the no of reviews already written.. I assume everybody knows the story more than the makers themselves!! So would just put down my thoughts on the movie, cast etc..

Casting..

Sidharth raj anand (the director) might ve gone wrong at sm places with the script.. but he makes up for everything with his amazing actor lineup.. this is certainly one of those movies where, if the actors are not good.. they could ruin the movie totally….

Like there’s a scene where Nick ( Saif) talks to a colleague in the restaurant, where the guy is supposed to make Nick realize that having kids is wonderful.. but the guy is not effective and thus we have a feeling that there is no reason why Nick should regret his decision of going against commitment and babies.. what I mean is that…. this is a completely “actor” driven movie…

Saif is no hugh grant.. but then hugh grant is no Saif either :-).. this guy is amazing.. he has fantastic timing for comedy.. he does everything with style.. sulking…laughing… crying.. getting annoyed… I find everything stylish.. he IS the ultimate “COOL” dude…

Preity.. is wonderfull.. the makers had already decided on Preity it seems, while they were getting ready with the script.. No 1 else could do this role the way she did… Although she could dial down on the screaming bit during the second half…. But shez Preity.. and with those dimples.. she could easily get away with murder…

These two being the central characters.. every thing else revolves around these two..

For support there’s Arshad Warsi.. who’s always looking out for eligible women.. and the Australian babe Tania as his wife!! (they get married even before u cld say… they got married).. There’s Jugal hansraj playing Preity’s cute friend.. whom she could always depend on every situation.. There’s the crazy (mallu) FM station owner (where Preity works) .... And the mad (bong) restaurateur (owns the place “nick of time” where Saif works) But .. but.. but.. the best was Javed Jaffri.. Amitah bachan in one of his famous dialogues said “English is a funny languge”.. and this guy proves Y!!!! he is fantastic … as the “bihari” turned “Crocodile dundy” :-) he does smthng with the hindi proverb “laton ke bhoot baton se nahin mante”.. don’t remember :-( .. and ends another sentence with “I don’t give a crocodile’s ass”… this guy I definitely feel is the MOST underrated actor in India…. Trust me..after wathing this movie.. you might laugh every time you hear some 1 say “Sorry”.. …

Abhishek bachanmakes a guest appearance as a crazy maternity doctor.. the doc is afraid to see blood!!!! .. Maria Goretti.. ooooooh… dimples again.. makes a pretty appearance with her cute baby…. Fantastic casting repeated ..That kid could make anybody want to have a baby…

And “Melbourne”.. yes the city where the movie is shot.. the director is absolutely right when he says, the city is one of the cast.. the beautiful city adds up spice to the characters emotions.. Somehow after watching the movie, I cant believe it would have had the same beautiful effect had it been shot anywhere else in the world..

Music

Excellent music scored by the composers… especially the title track “Salaam Namaste” and “My dil goes” are just as what was required in the movie.. u would definitely feel the elation, just like the characters Nick and Ambar feel when they realize their love for each other.. u might definitely be humming the song while it goes on…

All in all…. Anybody would enjoy this movie.. just don’t go by logic.. there’s Ambar dancing while she is pregnant with twins!!!!.. the “mallu” and “bong” bosses talk as if both the languages are meant for people with constipation problem…. so don’t go by logic.. I mean when u visit an amusement park.. u don’t really keep thinking about the nuts and bolts that hold the rides together.. u just enjoy the ride.. have fun.. that’s what u do in this movie.. enjoy the jokes.. laugh with them (at times u cld get hysterical…. particularly with javed’s scenes!!!) .. cry with them.. basically have loads and loads of fun..

Make your dil go mmmm..mmmm.mmmm…
