Yet another money-minting reality show! Of course, the concept is ripped off from US! "Moment of truth" aired in Fox Networkhosted by Mark Walbergbecame an instant hit! No wonder - one of the largest consumerist nation like India became the next target and here we have "Sach Ka Samna" -in Star Plus,Monday to Friday 10.30 PM to 11.00 PM!

Format

Anyone who got the courage to participate (no idea about the selection criteria) will undergo a polygraph test where in they will be asked fifty questions to which they have to answer (of course honest answers). The authenticity of the answers will be recorded by the polygraph machine (Please don't raise any red flag against the authenticity of polygraph test). Now - the results are not shared with the participants.

Now you are in the hot seat. You will be asked selected 21 questions from the 50 questions to which they have answered before and authenticity is verified by the polygraph machine. If you answer all the 21 questions with utmost honesty (inother words, honest as per polygraph test also), you can win Rs.1 crore!

The answer can range from simplest one like "Have you ever served stale food to guests" to ” Have you ever thought of killing your husband".

There is a lifeline - One question can be blocked by the relatives / friends whom the participants invite for the show.

So - this might break your relation, leave you completely naked before the public but alas - lucrative offer of Rs. 1 Crore - You are freed from EMIs, sulking boss - Is there anything above money?

Men behind the show

The creative head is Siddharth Basu(naam to suna hi hoga - anyone remember the DD days where in we used to wait for Quiz Time).

Host is the blue eyed boy and ultimate charmer Rajeev Khandelwal(Hero of critically acclaimed Aamir)

Well - I loved the magnetic screen presence of Rajeev. In the battle on moolah - he made the participants feel comfortable, establish quick rapport with them, ensure ultimate dramatic effervescence! Perfect choice ---

A brief note on the hype

I happened to see only two episodes and that too partially (that was enough to make my mind to engage in any other fruitful activities).

A middle class house wifeSmita Mathai(According to Rajeev's accent Mat - Hai )- admitted her grudge against mother and husband but finally lost at the twelfth question. Well - she got exposed and provided great amount of entertainment for those who want to fantasise by virtue of their libido. Ofcourse, her motivation is money (like any participant) but she got the status of "Joan of Arc". What a brave lady! Bravery is the synonym of greed? Okay - we can assign the age-old philosophical shade also - "Who is not motivated with money"

Yousuff Hussain - shared his escapades (having sex with close relative, prostitute, someone younger than his daughter, possibility of havingillegitimate ward - It is getting murkier in geometric progression. Also, forced attempt to manifest nervousness, sweating! Comeon, as if you were not aware the most difficult questions asked during polygraph test are going to be repeated. But, any such show offs will ensure adrenaline rush of participants - carefully and convincingly executed!

Much publicized and hyped Vinod Kambliepisode is being telecasted.

Already hype is being created about the pet of TV Serials (?) Urvashi Dholakia(getting pregnant while she was a minor) is about to be telecasted

Who want to take chance? Unknowingly, you are indulging in voyeuristic pleasure without having the stamp of peeping tom!

A bit more

Do I need to explicitly mentioned that you need to keep your kids away from this rubbish! I am not assuming the role of the "Saviour of Indian Tradition" etc. No tag is necessary to categorize such third - rate programme as a media disaster.

There could be any programme in visual media that might have adult content but as and when it crosses the barrier of decency - gut churns and intellect does not allow tolerating nonsense.

Above all - the producers have given many funny anecdotes to support the programme. A few that I could remember

a) After the programme, the trust between the participants and the members of family increased

b) This programme help you to lead a meaningful life full of honesty and integrity

Enough of these nonsense - at the end of the day, you have fixed the price of honesty which is never heard before.

Well - such shows will not make or break the culture / sanskriti - but my take is simple, it is not worth. If you want to have voyeurisitic pleasure and want to engage in such acts in a polished manner - here is an option, that's it!

Back to basics

I remember a meaningful verse from Ishavasya Upanishad.

"hiranmayena patrena satyasyapihitam mukham

tattvam pusannapavrnu satyadharmaya drstaye"

Means - The effulgent form of the omnipresent lord, is concealed from my vision. I pray you that you may disclose yourself before me. In other words - the ultimate form of truth cannot be hidden and to reach upto that level, you have to surrender yourself (totally) into a higher altar!

This is the act of valour and for me this is honesy! Not participation in such reality shows!

I am afraid - future generation might think, participation in such reality shows will be the acid test of proving that you are honest! Just like junk food, fast food life style ---- this is also the initial stage of a terminal disease. Is this what you mean by "Honesty" ?

Is this the definition of "Satyameva Jayate"

Is this the time to go back to basics?
