My Last Review on MouthShut.

Well, I’ve written two reviews on Archie, so now I thought, why not write one on Sabrina, who is actually a part of the large Archie family? It makes for

a nice last review, as well. Once again, I’d like to thank all the people who commented on my earlier reviews.

Who is Sabrina?

Sabrina the teenage witch was created in 1962. Her first appearance was in Archie’s Madhouse No. 22. She got her own comic book in 1971, which lasted until 1983. She was revived later on with another magazine, but till then, in the meantime she was restricted to doing guest appearances in Archie comics, sometimes helping out the gang. She was revamped in 2005 with a new ’manga’ look. Sabrina has also been shown as younger, as a ten-year-old in the Little Archie digests, and as a preteen in the early issues of the Sabrina magazine introduced in 2000. There has also been a Sabrina movie and an extremely popular Sabrina TV series, as well as Sabrina novels - 50 of them!

Let’s start with the beginning...

Sabrina was introduced as a girl who lived in Riverdale with her 300-year-old aunts, Hilda and Zelda, as well as her cousin Ambrose and Salem, her talking cat who had been a warlock until he was turned into a cat... But we got to know how and why only in 2000. While Hilda was a witch who always wanted to do something witch-like, Cousin Ambrose and Aunt Zelda always tried to cover up Hilda’s tricks on mortals. Sabrina was trying to get full control over her powers - she found it hard to not to help out her friends. Due to this, Aunt Hilda and Della, the headwitch, got angry with her. Sabrina’s friend was Harvey Kinkle.

Let’s go a bit more into detail...

In the beginning, Sabrina merely was a small part of the gang - who then went home to witch aunts and a world of brewing, witches, magic, warlocks, sorcery and much more. Let’s say she was just an ordinary teenage witch! Then when, after appearances in Archie’s TV Laugh Out in 1969, she got her own comic book in 1971, which was a major success and then cut out in 1983. But then, the 1990’s brought back Sabrina - with the adventures of a preteen Sabrina, then back to normal Sabrina-type life... well, with a few exceptions of course.

Sabrina as of NOW

Sabrina in the early 2000’s was a preteen who lived in Greendale. Her friends were Harvey and Chloe. And her aunts even had a cool makeover! She even had an uncle. The comics were fun and innovative. Then she was back to 16 years old. Chloe vanished, so did her uncle, and then Amy, a girl who was Sabrina’s rival, was introduced, as well as a whole new school. Things got very exciting... Also when Della was turned into a secretary by the new Headwitch, Enchantra...Then Shinji was introduced, who had a crush on Sabrina, and the comic turned into a Manga, following one fixed story line...

My favourite Sabrina?

I loved the Sabrina comic strips where she was at Gravestone Heights, along with other witches, and other weird friends, such as a boy with snakes instead of hair, Eyeda, a girl with only an eye for a head, and Cleara, an invisible girl! These series were fun to read and quite intriguing.

Over all, Sabrina isn’t just a comic to read, but to enjoy!
