Well so much for the much hyped anticipated movie of the year apart from OSO. to start with this movie was so much hyped I wonder if any other movie in the history of bollywood has been marketed so extensively. I heard sony spent 10m GBP= 80 crore rupees on marketing believe it or not. I guess sony wud be busy counting their losses not profit.

anyway cut to the story, well its the usual love story told in bansali style. The sets looked so gloomy to me that it looks more like a theater drama rather than a movie. This movie has no outdoor scenes at all as far as I remember.

I won't elaborate on the story since I guess it is a known fact. sonam loves salman who promises to return after a year and ranbir loves sonam, but sonam does not reciprocate her feelings for him and finally salman gets her. poor salman as a screen presence of only 10 mins or so. blah what a waste. looks like a 1960 love story. .

Anyways sets are very beautiful also the town looks like more like the towns from the novel of arabian nights. I got so bored I slept half way thru the movie only to be woken by my friend. many say it is art and the movie shud be appreciated for its opulence. well I disagree if a movie does not provide basic entertainment it is a bad movie. its akin to a car with plush interiors, and all the fancy decors but with a faulty engine. what was bansali thinking.

I mean this proves that bansali can only earn fame from copied movies like BLACK. BLACK was a ditto copy of the 1962 Oscar winning movie "The Miracle Worker".

After a litle bit of analyzing I have realized what SLB has tried to do. He tried to stick to his formula of HDDCS with a little twist. He has basically taken the same elementary characters from hum dil de chuke saman - 2 guys & 1 girl.

The equation in HDDCS was that

Girl is in love with a Guy, but gets married to 2nd guy, but still loves the first guy and in the end remains with the 2nd guy.

In Saawariya the story of HDDCS is with a twist Girl loves the first guy, 2nd guy enters, girl still loves the first guy and remains with the first guy.

But he has miserably failed here where as HDDCS was very good since in HDDCS he played along unexpected lines where as in saawariya it got all too familiar and boring.
