Why does it always happen in Indian cinema? An classic will get unnoticed at first, but in the future, it will get its recognition. Kaagaz Ke Phool, Shaib Biwi Aur Ghulam, Teesri Kasam, Mera Naam Joker, Lamhe, Andaz Apna Apna, Pinjar, Swades, and etc. flopped badly at the BO, but got their cult status as a classic in future days.
Well, the way how the BO is progressing, we can honestly add Saawariya to the list. Like the names of the movie I mentioned above, they were slow films, but yet got acclaimed. Other than AAA, neither had the mass appeal to it. Why does Indian audiences need to care about mass appeal only? No wonder why such American classic are not being made in Indian cinema because Indian audience always wants to see average flicks like OSO.
I applaud SLB for making a film like this, and its seems that SLB will be another Guru Dutt and Bimal Roy in the making. Screw the masses, make films straight from the heart. Plus, he went for a different type of ending.
Ranbir Kapoor makes an excellent debut, and he is sure to win the audience hearts with this performance. Sonam Kapoor needs alot of catching up to do. Rani is good.
One thing I was disappointed was Salman Khan. He was wasted in the film. SLB made this mistake because Salman Khan is a HUGE star in India, and if the movie is good or not, Salman Khan should have a good role so his fans can support him. Bad move SLB.
Music is excellent, and has my pick as the Best Album of the year. Each track is very well tuned.
Well, Saawariya team, I'm disappointed with the BO collection of the film, as it seems Indian audience can't accept films like this, and proves that Indian audience (like award shows) can't judge for crap, and its the honest truth. I'm an India, I was one of the few who said that Mera Naam Joker will get its due when it released, but people said this is the worst of Mera Naam Joker. But, so said, so done. Mera Naam Joker is a classic today.
Indian audience needs to be more open up, and they consider Bollywood is second to Hollywood, yeah right.
No wonder why, most acclaimed films flop, and stupidness like Aap Ka Surror is a Hit? I think that just explains everything!
