Saathiya was one film I was looking forward to from the time I had seen the promos because it looked so fresh and different and also that it had music by AR REHMAN,had a very good starcast and that it was the directorial debut of Shaad Ali who has worked as an assistant to Mani Ratnam....so definitely the expectations were sky high, and thankfully the film did not dissapoint mainly b'coz the film is so simply presented, and for a change the director has concentrated more on the emotions and extracting good performances from his actors rather then making them stand and sing in foreign locales in designer outfits. In this film the characters are normal people like us and thats why everyone can identify with them.

Saathiya is about a couple Aditya(Vivek)and Suhani(Rani)who fall in love with each other and marry against the wish of Suhani parents. And later on how things start changing when they start having differences so typical of a married couple. And there on the resentment leads to fights, misunderstandings between them.Their marriage also comes to the point of breaking up,but later on when Suhani meets with an accident,Aditya realises how much she means to him and how much he loves him,and Suhani escapes from death and both of them acknowledge thier love for one another.

Shaad Ali has done well for a first time director,he has handeled certain scenes well and with lots of maturity.I haven't seen the original film Alaipaythey so I cannot compare his work with Mani Ratnam, but he surely leaves his mark in some of the scenes. The dialouges of the film are also good and very natural.

The starcast of the film is great,it was a good change to see a new pair like Rani and Vivek in the film, and needless to say that they share a fantastic on-screen chemistry.Vivek is there in the film from start to end,and he is a very fine actor. He expresses a lot through his eyes and has a very good screen presence.Rani looked beautiful in the film and has also acted great.Hope to see more of both of them together.Sandhya mridul as Rani's sister is also very good and so is the rest of the cast.

Music is also very good by AR RAHMAN,and some of the songs have been brilliantly pcturised.I loved O humdum suniyo re,naina miliake but my most fav track is Aye Udi Udi,its a great song and also the picturisation is so cuteee.Even Mangalayam is picturised well in slow motion, where Rani and Vivek's wedding takes place. The only bad song in the film is Chori pe Chori,it was not needed at all,it should be deleted from the film. The song has Shamita shetty who is looking like a perfect wamp in this song.

Overall Sathiya is definitely worth a watch, and the film is like a breath of fresh air, from all the trash which is coming out.It is a very simple well made film, and if you like to enjoy such kind of emotionally driven films you should watch it.
