Last two or three years brought huge smiles to the face of people who are invested in stocks, real estate and gold.    If Sensex fly like a dove, Gold too increased its shining.  Real estate made the poor rich and the rich, richer.    There is a saying success has many fathers and failure is an orphan.      During the time of sensex boom almost every businessman tried their luck in the stock market and got some sweets from it.    Huge institutional investments and mutual funds draw a heaven like opportunity which never fails and most of them enter the market it as a hobby which makes money.  Saas Bahu aur Sensex is made in this background, to educate, empower and attract woman to Stock trading and wise investment.

Woman and stocks the film say is similar; most unpredictable.    We should not take the stocks as a hobby but serious.      The modern girls of metros are taking their career seriously and growing with changing time.   But there are a huge percentage of ladies who wastes their life engaged in gossiping and trading Saas Bahu rivalries.    Isn't it time to change this easy going attitude and enter the main road?  Saas Bahu aur Sensex remind us the need but warn not to lose the values and happiness.   Like the advice from the king of Salem in the Alchemist, the important point is to enjoy the journey but keeping the oil in the spoon.

Binita Sen (Kirron Kher) a nursery school teacher arrives in Mumbai with her daughter Nithya Sen (Tanushree Dutta) when her husband divorced her to a younger woman.    She is left with nothing except a flat, her confidence and few shared from her late father.   Nithya finds a job in a call centre with the help of Ritesh (Ankhur Khanna) where he is a tutor of voice modulation.   Slowly Nithya is enjoying the company of Ritesh, but Ritesh is in love with Kirti (Masumi Makhija) who is serving coffee at Costa's, who loves anything luxurious and her dream is to marry a rich guy.  Binita Sen is in desperate need of money and she wants to sell the stocks she had and meet Firoz Setna (Farookh Shaikh) from whom her father purchased the shares.  The stock broker is not ready to accept this sale, where as per him the stock is suppose to get high prices where the Sensex was moving up every day.  For Setna's surprise, everytime Binita reaches to Setna's office the sensex reach to new mile stones.   The kitty group in the colony whose main hobby is to watch TV serials and gossip one another too land up with the stock market where they were spying on Binita.   The stage is set for the trading of stocks…watch it onscreen.

The writer Director Shona Urvasi needs endless praise for the first half where the second half somehow reduced the impact and failed to live up to the expectation created by the first half.     The best part of writing is the characterization.  Each in the kitty group has an identity and it is depicted beautifully.    She has created a good number of situations which need special applaud.  The movie was all the way going in a jovial mood with nicely executed scenes which brought quite a lot of fantastic moments.   However, the writer in Shona failed to capitalize on the characters and situations she created in the second half.  The climax could have been much better.     The director is a great promise, provided serious attention is paid on the script.

Performance wise almost every actor did fantastic job.   The best performance comes from Ankur Khanna.  I love all those scenes where he is on screen, except the climax.   Excellent!   The surprise package of the movie is Masumi Makhija.   She is fantastic.   At least in some scenes she leaves a vibe like Bipasha Basu with her expressions.   Kirron Kher was very good, as usual.    Tanushree Dutta did a good job too.   The rest of the cast, led by Farookh Shaikh perform competitively.

There is nothing much to talk about the music, where the old Tamil song Rum Pum Pum Arambam steal the show.   Choreography is forgettable.  Cinematography is quite good.

Editing is one department the makers need to give attention.  The editing, particularly in the second half was poor.

One speciality of the movie that makes it different from others is the regional touch given by the writer.   Sindhi community will easily attach to it and I am sure the Sindhi community will make this movie works for them in their strongholds.   There is a Tamil couple whose life creates some fun but the fun is not on the regional accent or on community but on the general human behaviour.  Kolkota people will identify with Sen and Punjabis will feel their part too.

There are some fine situations created in the movie as well.

  1. The scene where Ritesh offer the wedding ring  and Kirti's reaction.

  2. Grocery purchase by mother in law and daughter in law.

  3. The Tamil couple's dance scene.

  4. Ritesh's American English training.

  5. The Dog trying to wake up Ritesh and Ritesh's reaction.

On the negative side, Nithya lacks justification for her actions at end, including love.      The movie released in a wrong time, where the stocks were all going down and the audience will reject the idea of investing in stocks as a safe investment.   The message of the movie also could not pass affectively.   Double meanings and symbolism are used in some places and yes, it reach to the audience to an extent but half of them didn't reach the target.

Overall, the movie is EXCELLENT in the first half with good fun where the second half is slow paced and the climax could have been better.  Yes, it is worth a watch for once but not a must watch.

My rating : 3.25 Stars
