One of the great things about the US and TV is the exposure people can obtain to different cultures.
I am more grateful than I can say to AZN & IATV and other networks that provide English subtitiles to productions such as Saara Akaash. The themes in Saara Akaash remind me a bit of the universal themes in novels such as Gone With the Wind...unspoken lifetime love, misinterpretation of the actions of others that leads to complications, betrayal, good versus evil.etc....but with the very special twist of also providing a view of the customs of another culture. It's a terrific learning experience especially as my kids have friends of all different backgrounds.
For example, my youngest has a very close Indian friend and I was delighted to have dinner with his/her parents a short while ago in their hometown (which is not my home area). I was disappointed to hear that they did not get Saara Akaash in their area as I wanted to ask them so many questions. I know from watching English films subtitled with another language that the subtitles either can't get it all in or the translation can have subtle but important differences. So I am currently looking to see if I can buy the series on DVD as a gift to them. I haven't read through this entire site yet so perhaps I can find it for sale here. If not, can anyone help me to find it?
