In an industry where mass entertainment, masala and item songs are the main things on the minds of most directors and producers while making movies, director Srikkanth Addala and producer Dil Raju’s joint venture ‘Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu’ is certainly a breath of fresh air. Don’t go in expectations of another Bommarillu because this movie is a completely different ball game. Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu’s rough translation is ‘Exquisite Plant in Seetha’s Front Yard’.

A lovely name, very much like the movie.

As the name indicates, Seetha is the main protagonist of this story played by Anjali. A young, lively girl, she runs her simple ancestral home in the riverside village of Relangi with her surrogate family-her parents died in a car crash- she takes care of everyone’s needs while alongside wooing her childhood sweetheart, Peddodu. Peddodu (meaning bigger one) and Chinnodu (meaning younger one), played by Venkatesh and Mahesh Babu respectively are the sons of Mavayah (meaning uncle- or a term of endearment), the do-good saint of Relangi played by Prakash Raj.

A prosperous, close-knit family, their relationship is strained by the entry of Geetha -played by Samantha- the daughter of the wealthy Rama Rao from Vishakhapatnam, who also happens to be Seetha’s paternal uncle, and openly detests and envies the family’s simple lifestyle. Chinnodu and Geetha’s affection for one another further adds fuel to the fire.

First and foremost, the best performance- won hands down by newcomer Anjali. Anjali as Seetha is a site to see. She looks beautiful, acts brilliantly and adds life to the movie. She delivers a power-packed performance, by far suppressing her much-reputed co-stars. She is leaps and bounds ahead of the other superstars in many areas. Prakash Raj as Mavayah is a close second and makes you wonder if there is anything this man can’t do. His roles, be it scheming super villain in Businessman or a quiet, underplayed head of the family in this movie are spot-on and he is especially amazing in this film.

A fabulous performance. Venkatesh and Mahesh Babu portray brotherly love superbly and play their parts flawlessly perfectly fitting their parts of close brothers from a rustic background. An extra word for Mahesh- he looks awesome. Samantha’s role as Geetha isn't much at all and while she looks stunning and acts really well, it’s more of a cameo than a lead role. Perhaps more comparable to Dookudu rather than Yeto Vellipoyindhi Manasu or Eega. The two couples, Samantha and Mahesh and Venkatesh and Anjali are amazing together and have great on-screen chemistry.

The music is impeccable- a bang up job by Mickey J Meyer. My personal favorite being Aaraduguluntada, the music fits the purpose and the genre of the movie as a family drama. The setting is gorgeous and the picturization is simply superb, be it the urban setting of Yem Cheddam, Inka Cheppale and Aaraduguluntada, or the Godavari backdrop of Vaana Chinukula.

The message of importance of family unity and in-consequence of caste and class has been passed along to the audience very well and it’s highly unlikely that there will be a single dry eye in the audience by the end. The movie does drag a bit, but in reality- which movie doesn't? Watch SVSC. Go with family, friends or even by yourself. It doesn't disappoint.
