A team that attacks, fights, surprises, and still manages to win. That's Werder Bremen.
Unlike many other teams in the Bundesliga, Werder actually plays attractive and atacking football. They are not extremely rich like Schalke, or Bayern Munich. This means losing players every season to their richer rivals, and having to reinvent themselves scratch year after year. Werder effectively plays with a new and almost inexperienced team(at lest half the team) at the start of every year. But thanks to the wonderful football they play, they have established themselves amongst the top 50 European teams, and are getting stronger every year.
With players like Klose, Diego, Frings, Borowski, and Mertesacker, every time Werder is on the field, you can expect pure action, and excitement. This is not a team that sits back and only defends, when they are leading or are only needing a draw. They still continue attacking, throwing caution to the winds, and ofter win by simply outscoring the opponenet.
The worst problem with Werder Bremen is there unpredicitibility. One day they defeat Chelsea, and the next day they lose to some unknown team from the German Regionalliga. One expects them to lose as an underdog, and they managed to reach the UEFA semi-finals. One expects them to win and take the Bundesliga, and they go on to lose to no-namers like Bielefeld or Frankfurt, They draw with Barca Barcelona, and lose to Espanyol.
No wonder that with all these downs, they are not quite at the top of the European football order, but they compesete with plenty of ups and pleasent surprises to rank amongst the best of the rest, and becoming one of the toughest teams in Europe. Werder Bremen does not actually manage making the opponents in the Champion's league tremble with fear and respect, likes Barca Barcelona, Chelsea, Inter Milan, or even Bayern Munich do. But they do manage to surprise these very teams and belong to the top flight inspite of being underdogs in most cases.
If you want to enjoy soccer, Werder Bremen is the team to watch.
