I have been using SBI Credit card for 3 years now. I had a major problem with these guys some time back that I want to share.


I got a call from customer service offering me a interest free loan of 45K for a period of 45 days. To which I agreed and asked them to go ahead. They said that I will get the draft in 2 working days. When I didn't receive it for 10 days, I called them up to find out what's going on. They said that they have already sent it. When I told them that I have not received it and asked them where they have sent it, they told me that they have sent it to my old address. Interestingly they themselves confirmed my new address, but failed to explain how the draft went to the old address.


My nightmare begun when I got the bill for the next month with that 45K which I never received, has been put there. When I called up the customer care, they advised me to ignore 45K and only pay the amount that I have used the card for. I was relived but it was shortlived. In another 15/20 days time I got a call from their collection agents asking me to make the payment of 45K. Even though I tried to explain them the situation, they won't listen. Then I started getting threatening and abusive calls from them every alternate day which made me extremely stressed. Finally I wrote a mail to the Director (or some equivalent ranked person for credit card division) explaining the whole situation.


Finally SBI came around and settled the amount (credited back 45K and all the fines they had imposed for late payment to my card). But it left me extremely frustrated during that period. It was a lesson learnt. But apart from that so far I didn't have any issues, other then some irritating overexcited call center guy calling and trying to sell one product or another. But I have learnt my lesson, not to tag the credit card with anything else.The bad thing is the incident that happened.


The good thing is that they accepted their fault and sorted it out (but only after numerous calls to their call center and a number of e-mail exchanges). I feel as a nationalized bank, they should be the last bank to take the help of Collection agencies (which is against RBI guidelines). Also I feel all this happened because of their association with GE money, which I don't trust at all.
