If you want to mess up your life with more problems than you may already have, the easiest way is to get yourself a SBI Credit Card.

I went to an appliances store to purchase a Voltage stabilizer for my new home theatre system. I was waiting at the cash counter with my SCB card to pay, when a person approached me and asked me if I was interested in applying for a SBI card. I politely told him that my mother had been an SBI employee for 36 years and I would have got one if I wanted to and have not, since I already had enough credit cards.

This person, Mr.A.K.Mahesh, Sales Representative, Bank Card Company, an agency for SBI Cards, promised to get me a SBI card with a bigger limit than my existing cards and also to do a balance transfer (BT) from my SCB card for Rs.33000/-. He also promised that I would not have to pay any interest for the first three months and even after that interest would be less than half of what I would normally pay. I realized later that I was a fool to fall for this trick.

After a couple of weeks, I was shocked to receive a SBI credit card with Rs.10, 000 as the credit limit (my existing card had a limit of Rs.48000/-) and Rs.7000/- was the BT (the promised Rs.33000/-). I immediately called Mr.Mahesh and told him that I did not require the card and reprimanded him for wasting my time.

He asked me to call the SBI help line and ask them not to proceed with the balance transfer. I did it and the lady assured me that it would be stopped. However, SBI went ahead with the BT. Again Mr.Mahesh asked me to write a letter to SBI cards and I did that too - explaining to them what I had been promised and what was delivered. I told them that if I was not given what I had been promised I would surrender the card. In response to the letter I received a call from SBI asking me to resend my documents as they had lost the ones I had already submitted! Can you believe this?!!

The fool that I was I sent it to them again. After a week I received a letter stating that they were unable to raise the credit limit at the moment.

After this I have wasted a lot of time calling Mr.Mahesh, his team leader, SBI customer service and a lot of other people. The only response I have received so far is monthly statements, which keep adding interest to my balance. I have not used the card even once and will not ever.

SBI Credit card division?s strategy is simple

1.Acquire customers by making false promises

2.Give them a card no matter what those promises were and

3.Hope that they will pay up and keep the card.

WARNING: DON?T EVER EVEN THINK OF AN SBI CARD. SBI HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. IT IS ENTIRELY RUN BY OTHER AGENCIES WHO DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT YOU OR SBI'S BRAND.
