There will be a lot of discussion on the subject. Every body hurls abuse on every body else. But we must be able to rate the performances on a 0-100 scale so that the performances are debated more rationally. I tried doing the same and used my computer to rate the performances in the just concluded test match series which India lost narrowly by 1-2 to South Africa. The ratings given by the computer for the 13 Indian players are given below:
India:
HIGH PERFORMERS:
(1) KKD Karthik: Got one match. 2 Innings. 1 Innings Not Out. 101 Runs. Average per Innings 101 Runs. 5 Catches. MARKS 100.
(2) S Sreesanth: A Find for India now. Played all the three matches. The best bowler of both the sides. 6 Innings. One Inning Not Out. 51 runs at an average of 10.2. Bowled 690 balls. Conceded 396 runs to take 18 wickets. No catches. MARKS 51.
(3) Zaheer Khan: Played all the three matches. 6 Innings. 71 runs. Average 11.8. Bowled 701 balls. Conceded 395 runs to take 13 wickets. 1 Catch. MARKS 45.
AVERAGE PERFORMERS:
(4) Anil Kumble: The second best bowler from both the sides taken together. 6 Innings. 24 runs. Average 4. Bowled 804 balls. Conceded 346 runs to take 14 wickets. No catches. MARKS 43.
(5) SC Ganguly: Re-entered Indian team. 6 Innings. One not out. 214 Runs. Average 42.8. Bowled 24 balls and conceded 22 runs without taking a wicket. 3 catches. MARKS 41.
(6) VVS Laxman: 6 Innings. One Not out. 180 runs. Average 36. 5 catches. MARKS 35.
(7) Sachin Tendulkar: A disappointment for all his fans. The master is now club-class and the mastery is over some time ago. 6 Innings. 199 runs. Average 33.2. Bowled 79 balls. Conceded 33 runs to take 1 wicket. 3 catches. MARKS 35.
