Quite happy with this service. Review on Runbox

I have been a Runbox Mail Service user for past one year and I thought it would be a good idea to jot down my experiences here.

Runbox is a Norway based email company providing a premium email service for $49.95 per year. They offer 10 GB email storage with 1 GB for storing files. They provide an ad free email service. They also allow you to host your own domain email and offer access through both POP and IMAP.

General Features

First thing that attracted me about Runbox was its Webmail - it’s a very clean, uncluttered interface. It is a model of simplicity giving easy access to all its features.

They also allow me to collect mails from my other email accounts or forward these mails to a mailbox of my choice. Another interesting concept I saw here is - one can actually change the “From” address of the mail that you send e.g I can send a mail using my Runbox account but it will appear as if it is coming from my Hotmail account.

Support is very friendly and helpful. Best thing is this is a email service with a human face rather than some software answering our questions. They have a forum of their own and their entire team participates on this forum.

While a paid email service is not necessarily better than a free one , what really makes a difference is a quick response to support queries. Runbox scores 5/5 in this department and this is one of the main reasons people use Runbox.

Anti Spam

One can also use their alias feature to prevent spamming. Imagine one of your aliases getting posted on lists or websites and picked up by spambots. The moment you start receiving spam on this particular alias,just delete it and make a new one. I am using one particular alias just for the purpose of posting on websites and lists to tackle spam.

Runbox has one of the best Spam filters I have ever used.

Domain hosting -

This has been one of the best features of Runbox as far as I am concerned.

Drawbacks -

Yes , most definitely there are drawbacks. Most of this email providers have given us lot of space but they have not given us a system to file all our mails/ documents. There is definitely room for improvement here - maybe nested folders and/or labels like Gmail.

Also a powerful search feature like in Gmail has to be implemented here as well.

Bandwidth restriction (2.5 GB per week) but enough for regular users.

They have a list of coming features on their website and I hope they implement them soon. They seem to be a bit slow in introducing new features.

IMAP server has occassional problems.

Fonts while reading your mail on web interface are small and they could give a option to increase fonts.

Pricing :

Runbox costs 49.95 dollars a year around Rs.2200/- .

Also you can take a free one month trial account in which all features are available so you can see for yourself how good it is. I would highly recommend a free trial.

It’s been year since I have been using their service and I am happy with this service. However I would also recommend taking a look at https://fastmail.fm , https://everyone.net and https://tuffmail.com. These are good services as well and as good as Runbox.
