When will Abhishek Bachchan get a single hit to his credit? When will Sridevi Kapoor be a successful producer?It was expected that with the release of ?Run? both of them will be successful-Abhishek as an actor and Sridevi as a producer, but sorry, don`t EVER think so. The title ?Run? is so catchy?.so different. It may remind you of Ram Gopal Varma`s films (remember ?Daud?,which starred Sanju Baba and Urmi Baby?).Here the title is only different, the rest is a RUN off the mill stuff. This film has nothing new, at all. The same old storyline, the same old dialogues, and what not?
THE FILM:
Sridevi Kapoor and Boney Kapoor`s ?Run?, directed by Jeeva stars Abhishek Bachchan, Bhoomika Chawla, Mahesh Manjrekar, Vijay Raaz, Ayesha Jhulka and Mukesh Rishi. There were great expectations from this film, which could have proved to be a turning point in Abhishek Bachchan`s career, but, sadly when the film has nothing to offer, then what can an actor do?
THE CHARACTERS AND PERFORMANCES:
1.Siddharth(Abhishek Bachchan):Siddharth is an angry young man. He fears none!Even if he has to face a don like his love`s brother he won`t ?run? away.He will face him. Abhishek Bachchan acts very well and is a very good performer-why do I have to say this in every review of mine on an Abhishek Bachchan film?Because that`s the only problem. He acts well,he does his job with sincerity but the scripts or films he get are not sincere to him. In ?Run?,he has done an excellent job.His dialogue delivery,face expressions and whole body language are perfect,but now it`s high time,he looks out for a better film. Now, let`s see what happens to his next release-Mani Ratnam`s ?Yuva?,which is a big budget film and from which everyone has high expectations,include Abhishek Bachchan, for sure.
2.Jhanavi(Bhoomika Chawla):Jhanavi is your girl next door, kind of a character. She seems to be a simple girl who is leading a normal life like anyone else, but with a brother like Ganpat,who can lead a normal life? Bhoomika Chawla has tried to make herself look glamorous and she succeeds in looking good,but that`s it. From someone, who gave such a wonderful performance in ?Tere Naam?,though she was opposite a seasoned performer like Salman Khan,here she disappoints.All she has to do here is to look beautiful and speak out the lines she has been given to.It seems as if her dress designer and make up man has put in more work than her.
3.Ganpat(Mahesh Manjrekar):Ganapat is an over caring,and an over possessive brother of Jhanavi.Nobody even dares to look at her,but what if somebody does dare to do so??Yeh usko kaat dale ga?(He will cut him down).Mahesh Manjrekar doesn`t leave any kind of impression on you,instead he gets on your nerves.He looks sick and crazy and has one kind of face expression on his face,the kind of an expression a bull dog has on his face.Don`t expect the kind of performance,he once delivered in ?Kaante?,this time.
Vijay Raaz is another irritating and over-the top creature.He is loud and the dialogues he use are disgusting.He won`t make you laugh but annoy you and if you`ll laugh on anything,then it will be the writer`s sense of humor(?).Ayesha Jhulka(What?What is she doing here,after such a long time,and that also as Abhishek`s sister?),is good in her respective role.Mukesh Rishi doesn`t leave any impression,whatsoever.
THE STORY:
Siddhu (or Siddharth,as you would like to call him),is a young boy who is new in Delhi for the purpose of studying further.One fine day,he gets to see an attractive girl,Jhanavi and his heart skips a beat after her.He falls in love with her but falling in love with her is no less than committing a crime.She has a brother,Ganpat,who doesn`t want anyone to look at Jhanavi,at all and here Siddhu is in love with her.Now what?When this mentally ill don,Ganpat comes to know about this love angle,he makes sure that he should torture the hell out of Siddhu but Siddhu is also not a loser.When Jhanavi tells Siddhu to take care of himself he asks her to say the same thing to Ganpat.He has the nerve to ask that if Ganpat gets cut down,won`t he bleed?Now,what will happen,further?Who will have to Run?Siddharth and Jhanavi or Ganpat,or Siddharth,alone?Watch the film,to get to know the answer to this question,before you RUN away from the cinema halls.
THE WORK OF THE CREW:
Jeeva`s direction is terribly poor.The diretor just fails to evoke interest in viewers.Each and every scene is so predictable and the characters don`t share any chemistry between each other.You just can`t feel for anyone.After every ten or fifteen minutes there are fights or songs.There is nothing exciting or thrilling in this film.
Screenplay is confusing.This thing is not at all explained why Ganpat had objection with Siddhu and Jhanavi`s love?Why he never wanted anyone to fall in love with his sister.After all,she is a girl,boys do look at girls.It`s just so natural.Also,why is Ganpat so over-possessive about Jhanavi?Is she his sister or wife?In this way,so many questions remain unanswered.
Script is the worst.I wonder how the scriptwriter even dared to think of a story like this in such times,when audiences are becoming more sensible?Wasn`t the failure of films like ?Deewanapan? and ?Yeh Dil? who were based on the same subject,enough to act as a signal to the storywriter?Editing is loose.The film drags,unnecessarily and I don`t know why.Every scene is so predictable that there is no need for such long action scenes.
Action is good but not excellent.This film depicts lots of violence.If you think that Sridevi`s last home-production ?Shakti-The Power? was too violent,then ?Run? is also no less.
Cinematography is fine.Himesh Reshammiya`s music is good.?Zara Zara?,?Chain Ho Chain Ho? and ?Dil Main Jo Baat? are hummable songs.
ON THE WHOLE:
?Run? is one such film you should definitely avoid.You may suffer from a headache after watching this film and by the way,who likes to suffer from headache.Nobody,so nobody should watch this film.We have seen such films several times before,and there is no point in watching this film,too.There was no point for the filmmakers to make such a film,as well.I still wonder,what prompted the filmmakers to make this film?
