Introduction :
Ruia college is one of the most reputed colleges in Mumbai for Science and Arts. It has been maintaining its rank in one of the 5 best colleges for Science and Arts in Mumbai. I have completed my fyjc(science) out here. And I had a great experience and a gala time.
Ruia not only enjoys the reputation of being one of the best colleges but it also outstands in curricular and co-curricular activities.
Subjects :
Ruia college offers Arts and Science. The faculty of Arts comprises of departments of English, French, Hindi, Marathi, Sanskrit, Economics, Politics, Philosophy and History. It also has a subsidiary department of Commerce. The faculty has the best of professors who have also been hornoured with several awards. The faculty of Science consists of departments of Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science and Microbiology which are very well-equipped. The professors are damn good and helpful.
About the college :
The college consists of 2 buildings- The senior college and The junior college.
The senior college has a reading hall that can accommodate around 350-400 students while the junior college reading hall can accommodate 200 students. The students can also borrow books and papers from these reading halls. The students can study over here while they have free lectures. The open shelf library is a centre which makes about 30000 books readily accessible to students. There is a good collection of books on different subjects. The college has set up an audio visual centre with an audio visual library section to offer the instructional material on audio or video cassettes.
Vidyarthi Pratinidhi Mandal(VPM) is a very important part of the college. It enables the students to get in touch with the teachers and management. Besides the college runs about 20 different associations which enables the students to participate in co-curricular activities
There is a Gymkhana is the Junior college which is well equpiied with a badminton court, shooting range and highly sophisticated exercising equipment which can be used by the students and the faculty members.
Besides there are 2 auditoriums out of which 1 is equipped with video projection facilities.
The Information Technology Centre offers a variety of computer courses to the students and the faculty members. It has a laboratory with about 60 IBM computers for students and 9 computers for faculty members.
My personal Opinion About The College :
This college is really good. The staff is also very helpful. Even though we don't attend many lectures, whenever we have difficulties, they always help us. The professors are just great and highly qualified.I mean I have enjoyed my first year in this college a lot. The junior college is not very serious as far as the attendence is concerned. But I think that it ok because even we need to enjoy these years of our college life.The Senior College is quite strict about the rules and regulations atleast as far as attendence is concerned.
The entire area is so lively when the college is in on. The Ruia-Podar campus is always happening. Besides the favourite hangouts for Ruiaites and Podarites are Manis, Snowpoints, DPs etc. We always enjoy bunking the lectures and sitting at these places for timepass. Besides the 'katta'(a small wall in front of the college where everyone sits) is always full.
The annual festival of Ruia College is Utsav. It is an intracollege festival. I have been the many other festivals but this one was damn good. Infact it was out of the world.
Everything in the college is totally impartial. Though the majority of the crowd comprises of Maharashtrians there is no special priority to them. Besides all those rose day, sari day, traditional day, chocolate day and so on are a real bash. I have been enjoying my college a lot (though school life was the best but college life isn't all that bad).
