We were put up in the Palms Hotel, Mumbai by one of our client companies for a 5 day program. The location is difficult to find and the roads leading to it are really lousy and in bad shape. To add to that, we came at night and the route marking is conspicuous by its absence.
On the very first day, I noticed the following:
The light in the bathroom was not functioning.
The shaving mirror was broken.
No bath mat was placed in the bathroom.
I reported the same for repair but except the bathroom light no action was taken.
I also noticed the following:
The AC had basically two positions, on and off with some intermediary positions for fan speed. The temperature control(though mounted in a glitzy control panel next to the bed) did not work.
The flooring was faux-wood vinyl, most of which was in different stages of peeling off.
The furniture was of carved wood, but the wood was a cheap variety and had warped in the humidity.
The housekeeping was moody and whether they replaced the tea and coffee in the tea-maker seemed to depend on the mood of the guy.
The corridors were long and smelly(VERY SMELLY). They were carpeted and the sickening odour of the stale food permeated the entire building. Even the banquet hall, where we had the program was stinking! The same problem, stale food odours from the carpeted floor.
The restaurant seemed to have a propensity for recycling food. The food was necessarily a buffet and where they were quite transparent and even named the same dishes similarly, some times they tried to conceal it by naming the same dish by some other name.
The crowning glory was when my colleague was charged Rs 700 for calls she had never made.
Incidentally, the mobile coverage(all providers) was terrible and each called dropped every 10 - 20 seconds and no place was free from this problem.
Bon voyage.
