My Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 Twilight was delivered to me on 15 April 2013 at Royal Enfield Brand Store, Chennai after waiting for 5 months. I affectionately call her Blue Bird because of her two-tone Twilight shade. I am writing this review after riding my Blue Bird for 990 km. I have already done Chennai-Pondy-Chennai and Chennai-Bangalore on my Blue Bird. My Blue Bird has already completed her first free servicing at the company-owned service centre at OMR, Chennai.
My Blue Bird recorded a fuel efficiency of 28.5 kmpl during my ride from Chennai to Bangalore, when I maintained a speed of 80 to 90 kmph.
While I like the power and torque of my Blue Bird, I very badly miss 12 V charger in this premium bike, which is a highway cruiser too. Even scooters costing less than half the cost of Thunderbird have 12 V charger nowadays. My Blue Bird already had a puncture at Krishnagiri, while riding to Bangalore. Another sore point is, the digital display does not show fuel efficiency in kmpl. One has to calculate it manually.
Royal Enfield Brand Store, Chennai, did not bother to give me complimentary key chain, when I bought this premium bike! All the documents were put in a paper envelope and given to me at the time of delivery of the bike, which gave away the very next day. :(
I enjoy riding on my Blue Bird, when I forget all these pin pricks.
