Its been 14 months since I laid my hands on my bike and I continue to enjoy every single moment with it. Reason being, I knew the DOs and DONTs about RE:
DOs:
1.Take care of it regularly- wash, wipe and oil.
Servicing: Yes, the neighborhood RE mechanic will make sure you comeback when he services your bike. To avoid this, know your bike well, raise your voice to the manager and get it sorted right there and then. Spending a few hours at the service center while your bike is being serviced will help.
Do understand that it is a RE and not a Japanese reliable monster or stylish European over-engineered bike.
Idle for min 30-40 seconds with the clutch depressed during the first start everyday for a good gearbox.
DONTs:
expect too much. I know it is 2016 and I know how other bikes perform and serve. It is a bike made to have presence on the road and to take to ladakh. That is it.
go to the service center for minor electrical issues, like fuse being blown or fuel gauge not working. The new fuel gauge will go bust anyway. Learn to refill your bike by the km reading.
I love riding and have a few long sojourns under my belt, but I know how reliable my bike is my journey is planned accordingly. I have maxed it at 105 and driven for hours at 60, it is a simple bike and I like it that way.
Bottomline: Do not expect much. It will take you across the country or from home to work easily and in style but the day you expect too much from it, it will show trouble.
