: Well, I happened to buy a std 350 for about 25 grand (88 model) about 4 months ago and I'm happy that I made the right decision. I still believe it is the only bike in india which can truly inspire you to take the bike for an early morning spin !! And I would also like to add that it is one of the most misunderstood and misjudjed bike on planet earth !! For instance I read a review of this bike on this same website, where a chap thought that the new Bullet Electra had electric start !!! I wonder if this chap has even seen the new bullet, let alone riding one. And he merrily called it ''ES'' for electric start ! Firstly let's get one thing straight there is no Royal enfield bike with Electric start . So for those guys who thought that starting a bullet would be easy, think again !!
And for those of you who still think that riding a bullet requires a herculean effort, you can have my middle finger !!! Honestly guys its one of the easiest bikes to ride once you know how to change the gears(i.e. after you learn to start the bike!!)! If you think I'm out of my mind then just ride one yourself and u'll know what I'm talking about.
You'll often hear people say that the bike is very heavy, difficult to start and blah blah blah.......!! Well, I'll agree that the bike is heavy(173 kgs) , but you are not gonna be pushing the bike all the time. you only ride the bike sitting on top of it !!And talking of starting the bike , yes it does require a pretty strong right leg!! The bike handles like a knife on butter! It is simply one of the best handling bikes on Indian roads. Take it out on the highway and u'll know what I'm talking about.
WHO SHOULD BUY THIS BIKE?? Coming to the million dollar question, it is not for those who believe in just commuting from Point A to point B. It is for those who enjoy travelling and want to do it in style !! It has its own share of problems (now which bike in india doesn't??) like the regular tappet adjustments and stuff. so it helps if you know something about the mechanism of the bike ((No, it doesn't require a degree in Mechanical engineering!!)) or even better if you know a friendly mechanic who can set things right in a jiffy(free of cost!). Those of you who still are'nt convinced, TEST RIDE THE BIKE before you jump into any conclusions! It is more helpful than just reading reviews about it!!
And for those bullet critics, lets appreciate the bike for what it is rather than just complaining about it. After all it is the only bike which inspires ME to get up early in the morning and take it out for a spin!!!!!!!!!!
