No comparison though as ‘Roy’ is 1000 times better than ‘Happy Ending’ but then there are many similarities with the same outcome.

The Movie:  ‘Roy’ is a famous character of a successful international masked thief played by Ranbir Kapoor in back to back successful film series written and directed by Kabir Grewal(Arjun Rampal). Roy’s excellence in robbery without leaving any clues nor getting caught glorifies his image as an immortal character which is exploited by Kabir who now is making his third movie in the series.  Having found a financer, and without a script, he is unable to kickstart his story.

Nevertheless, he heads to Malaysia to start the shoot.  Kabir is a Casanova whose girlfriends are better known by numbers rather than by name, 21 so far and 22nd in the running.  He then meets Ayesha Aamir(Jacqueline Fernandez) an actress who has now turned to Direction and is in Malaysia to shoot her movie. Kabir now finds his story in Ayesha, his 23rd girlfriend and begins to shoot with Roy and Tia(Jacqueline Fernandes) in the lead roles.

Roy’s character created by Kabir is loyal to his profession which is ‘robbery’ and has never cared for his lady love.  As is expected with Kabir, his brief affair with Ayesha ends abruptly and is now facing a writer’s block. Unable to think straight and continue the script, he leaves the movie half way making every attempt to unsuccessfully reconcile with Ayesha. Finally he decides to change the ruthless character of Roy to change himself with the intent to complete the movie and to win back Ayesha.

Confusing Plot: It is a movie in a movie. Roy is a character created by Kabir who now finds similarity between his personal life and created reel life. These scenes though nicely switched is seamless but confusing. It will take you a while to really understand what is actually going on but by then it is the interval.

Dialogues: I consider myself with an average brain and yet it took me a while to grasp some of the dialogues which seemed to be complicated.  Few of them were self-contradicting and meaningless. I tried to understand the meaning of one dialogue and lo there goes another one over the head. The dialogues were so aptly written that it seems superficial on screen. Not the type that one would come across in real life. I am sure for some it may seem just blah blah blah.

Cast: Arjun, Ranbir and Jacqueline were superb in their lead roles and nicely supported by Anupam Kher as Kabir’s dad.

Songs: ‘Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan’, ‘Sooraj Dooba hai yaaro’, ‘Tu hai ki nahin’, ‘Yaara Re’ and ‘Boond Boond’ are memorable and priceless. Picturization of the songs was classy and added life to the movie which I felt was headed to nowhere.

Direction: Considering this is Vikramjit Singh’s debut, he is marvelous. Full marks to the direction and cinematography. Even with the confusing plot, the screenplay was quite amazing and proves his proficiency at direction. He ends the movie by painting the same picture he had started the movie with which I felt was outstanding and is not the product of an ordinary mind. I believe he has great potential and will deliver much more in coming days.

Conclusion:  The movie is rich in content but a bit taxing on the brain and hence not suitable for all audiences. Some will find it boring and many will not be able to relate with the characters in the movie. In the name of entertainment, there is only a selfish Casanova Director’s love story in which no one will be interested in. Just to be fair to the cast and direction, the movie is just good enough as a one time watch.
