Roy:One of the much awaited movies of 2015.Ranbir Kapoor’s flick releasing after a span of a year and a half.Too many expectations. Did “Roy” live upto the expectations? Will find out in next 15 to 20 minutes!

Story:

Roy is a story of a film director/writer who draws inspiration from real life characters(who doesn’t by the way?) and creates a character whose life runs in parallel with his own.No prizes for guessing the actor who played the role of this director.Yes!Its Arjun Rampal(Kabir). The character essaying the role of a con man in his movie series “Guns 1 / 2 /3” is none other than Ranbir Kapoor(Roy).

“Writer’s block” brings him to Malaysia where Kabir, “the womaniser” with 22 love affairs to his credit meets and falls in love with another writer from London called “geeky” Ayesha Amir(Jaquelin).Everything is hunky-dory(we even get a chance to see Jaquelin perform ballet on the beach!) until Ayesha gets hold of Kabir’s script and is shocked by the fact that he was using the experiences both of them shared as  his movie’s story(I couldn’t comprehend why she was so offended by it though! She should have been happy and proud!Lol)

The lover’s tiff continues .Kabir’s father(Anupam K) dies in the meantime(enough of the “Nurse changing” sessions!).Ranbir K steals the stolen paintings, gifts the long lost  timepiece to Detective Wadia(Rajit Kapur) and rides bike in another parallel world. And after enough of drama and stretching the story like a rubber band, Kabir and Ayesha reunite(Oh!We dint expect that.Such an unpredictable twist!Duh!)

This is one of the most confusing and unplanned/illogical stories I have come across. Its a cross between Commercial and Artsy movie.Though its neither the former nor later.

Direction/Editing/Cinematography:

Vikramajit Singh fails miserably as a director and writer in his debut movie. The movie starts off as a take-off from comic books. To compare the story with comic books would be an insult to the world of comics which gave us Dhruv/Nagaraj/Doga and the likes. It appears as if the director started writing the movie(wanting it to be different from the rest) and then after 30 minutes, lost interest and tried to rope in Ranbir in order to give it the much needed name for being successful. He tried to fool the audience by projecting this film as a Ranbir Kapoor film…Don’t be mistaken. Its an Arjun Rampal’s flick with Ranbir Kapoor being more of an extended Special appearance character.

Editing is primary school standard.Nothing to boast on this front either. This movie should have been edited to 0 hours length if possible(or realistically speaking 147 mins should have been cut down to 70 mins max).

Cinematography by Himman Dhamija is praiseworthy. Scenes in Malaysia and London are beautifully captured. Especially the section in “Tu hai ki nahi”.Beautiful! Good Job Himman.

Star cast:

Jaquelin- Ranking based upon looks-95%(Ayesha’s look in particular. Quite nice and quirky). Based upon acting prowess-0%

Ranbir Kapoor-He looks lost.Completely disinterested. This is a movie which is being publicised solely on his name and he fails to impress the crowd.Where is the charm of “Rocket Singh”, ”Barfi” and “Jordan”?Bring him back for the audience’s sake RK!

Arjun-

He looks handsome/classy and acts well too.Being the protagonist of the flick, he did his bit with perfection.

Rajit Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Shernaz Patel -

As detective Wadia(dumb detective.who can be easily fooled), this part looks more like a spoof on our favourite TV series of yesteryears(Byomkesh Bakshi).Average role and average acting.

Anupam Kher was in his usual self.Standard role of a happy and understanding father.

Shernaz looked cute and acted well as Meera.

Music:

One high point of this movie is its music.Ankit, Amaal, Meet Bros packaged a hummable album with excellent tracks. The background music of “Tu hai kin ahi” whistle will keep your foot tapping on and off.Sooraj Dooba is a “pub” worthy number!

Full marks to the music directors! They live upto their names.

Scenes:

This movie doesn’t boast of any great scenes as such.one or two here and there.Example:Cyrus interviewing Arjun was funny!.Ummm.Thats it!

Pathetic scenes(this is a new category which I have introduced.dedicated to this flick!)-

Though almost all the scenes are trashy and stupid, one “Super”crappy scene was of Ranbir confronting/threatening the buyer of “million worth” half part of the painting. An amateur fight scene  in which the “so-called’ villain points a pistol at him and Ranbir acting like Sir P.C. Sarkar grabs the pistol within micro seconds! C’mmn!. It’s a drama flick not a comedy one! This scene can be used in comedy movies/3-5 year’s kids comic books though!

Final Verdict:

As the readers may have already guessed, this movie deserves 1 star and nothing more.My typewriter; oops;  Keyboard weeps at awarding 1 star to a Ranbir Kapoor flick but! Can’t help it.
