Much Rowdy Ado about nothing in this Shoddy Movie

Rowdy Rathore as its name suggest is an incredibly loud, gory action film. Basically the movie seems like 2 different movies. It is a comedy movie in its 1st half and an action movie in its second part.. But neither work. Here's why:

Prabhu Deva who made an incredibly entertaining action film in Wanted, falters big time here. In Wanted the comedy and romantic parts were seamlessly integrated into the narrative. Here the comedy is entertaining in the 1st 10-15 minutes, but gets repetitive from there on. The romantic track between Akshay and Sonakshi stands out like a sore thumb. The lines given to Akshay and Sonakshi in the 1st half are terrible. Sonakshi who had a meaty role in Dabanng(another riveting action film) gets no scope here. Here role as Paro stands out like a poor man's Rajjo from Dabanng.

The screenplay is the 1st half is very loose and makes you feel bored. Akshay repeats his roadside goofy character which he has played better in his earlier movies here as well. When the movie started off so well, you expected a certain level of standard to be maintained. But the movie starts going downhill right after the Chintata song. The scenes between Akshay and the little girl who mistakes him to be his father will put you off to sleep with the most clinched dialogues and situations.

The 2nd half is comparatively better with the entry of Vikram Rathore(also played by AKshay Kumar). The action scene between Vikram and the goons just before he is killed is rivetting. The flashback portions of Vikram Rathore also maintain the tempo. But once Shiva enters Devgarh Village as Vikram Rathore to seek revenge, the movie again faces a lull. The villains are loud and irritating. One really misses the presence of better villains like Prakash Raj(who was fabulous in Wanted and Singham). Southern star Naseer gets a very cringeworthy role and fails miserably. One really expected a better comeback for Naseer into Hindi films. The other villains(especially the one made to look ferocious but ends up as a laughable caricature) are also the same.

The climax is weak and extended. The movie could have easily ended 15-20 minutes earlier. Fans of Akshay Kumar who were waiting for his return as Khiladi will get disappointed by the movie, but not by his acting. Akshay shines in both roles and reminds everyone why he is one of the most underrated actors in Bollywood.

All said and done Rowdy Rathore is Rowdy but not entertaining. It seems like a Mishmash of Dabanng, Wanted, Singham etc. but doesnt match the level of any. PrabhuDeva could have chosen a better movie as his comeback to Bollywood after making a gret impact with the cult entertainer Wanted. Rowdy Rathore sadly isn't as entertaining as Wanted, lacks the repeat value of an Agneepath(new and old), doesn't make an impact like Singham, and neither does it have the canvas and production values of a Dabanng.

A big disappointment from one who made an energetic movie like Wanted. 1.5 stars from me. Skip it.
