I can’t remember the last time I saw this wonderful occult classic, however I remember its release in the theatre like it was yesterday. I was just eight years old than. My oldest brother and sister were in their teens, and they saw this movie upon its release. When they talked about this movie it scared me. Well, when I first saw “Rosemary’s Baby” on TV I too expected to be scared out of my wits, but that didn’t happen. However, I did find this movie to be quite eccentric, its approach to the occult and Satanism is very odd, and spooky.

This 1968 release sparked the same amount of attention, and chills from moviegoers as did William Peter Blatty’s “The Exorcist.” The chilling sight of a young woman getting raped by the devil, and later conceiving his child is what shocked and scared millions of moviegoers. A long forgotten actor, Mia Farrow portrays the wife of an up and coming actor whose desire is to acquire more success in his acting career. His pact with the devil, and success becomes a supernatural nightmare for his wife.

In this movie, a married couple moves to New York city their middle class apartment life seems exciting until they meet their strange neighbors, an overly friendly elderly couple. As a result of this new friendship many queer things happen. Rosemary’s husband Guy (John Cassavetes) is suddenly given a lead acting role when his colleague goes blind. Rosemary meets another neighbor, a young woman who raves about the elderly couple Rosemary has met. Later this young woman mysteriously plunges to her death from a window, leaving a suicide note. Meanwhile, Rosemary meets her friend Hutch (Maurice Evans, ''Bewitched''), he informs her of the horrid legacy of her apartment building, having a history of witches, and warlocks along with their ties to Satanism, and murder. And its it Satanic historical ties with its present residents.

More strange things happen, Rosemary’s husband wants to have a baby he picks a peculiar day, and hour when this will occur. Rosemary’s neighbors become more, and more generous with dinner, and desert. The ingredients of Rosemary’s meals are prepared in an odd and dismel manner, best suited for her strange and supernatural pregnancy.

Rosemary goes to bed, and she thinks she having a dream when lying on a bed naked surrounded by her elderly neighbors, her husband, and a strange creature having sexual intercourse with her. When Rosemary’s friend Hutch makes an appointment to tell her way she’s having strange occurrences with her new neighbors, food, and pregnancy he suddenly dies. Later Rosemary discovers what’s happening to her, and the true legacy of her neighbors. Everyone in Rosemary’s life except her friends have doomed her life and planned it for Satan. I want tell you much more you must see this movie, it’s a must see horror classic.

Final Thoughts on “Rosemary’s Baby”

“Rosemary’s Baby” is an outstanding occult movie of its time, its direct focus on the occult, and Satanism is what fascinated audiences. Satanism was certainly not a popular theme back than. Moviegoers would see more popular themes of horror with a focus on haunted houses and the living dead. Director, Roman Polanski and writer Ira Levin speared headed audiences with this unique theme of Satanism, in “Rosemary’s Baby” which spooked many moviegoers.

“Rosemary’s Baby” is graced with an outstanding cast of good actors, a wonderfully written script, and great direction, which paves the way for excellent pacing in this film. This movie’s excellent cinematography is attributed to an excellent middle class urban setting, and its gothic architectural buildings in popular New York City.

This movie scores five stars it’s excellent.
