I just finished reading this two novellas published in one volume by penguin in 1987, the time when I was born. I am reading this for the second time. Three years ago, I had read it for the first time and I was as novice to the books as was Rusty to the India around him. Now after three years I have a different perspective for this novels and maybe after many years adolescence might seem a beautiful past to laugh and cherish at.
Ruskin Bond has always made me think through his writing. And this novels are perfect for anyone who just want time for solitude and reminicise about their youth. And if you are already in your teens you would love to be a vagrant with Rusty in the hills and valleys and bazaars and no doubt on the room on the roof.
It is the story of the journey of a youth from adolescence to a matured man. Story of his dreams, his friends and his homeless adventures. I am sure you might find yourself in place of Rusty atleast in some part of his adventures.
