I need to be honest as to why I tried Romanov Red vodka in the first place. It was because of Shipla Shetty:) I was more in love with Shilpa than the vodka itself but now I have to admit that my admiration for both of them are equal. Romanov Red vodka claims to be "India's first multi grain and multi distilled vodka". A little research shows that vodka can be made from either grain(corn, rye, wheat) or potatoes, grapes, rice, etc. This essentially would mean that Romanov Red is made from multiple grains and distilled more than once. How does that change anything?
Well, to start off with, repeated distillation will result in a purer than purer form of vodka(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vodka#Production). The level of distillation and number of grains used in production is what truly determines the'purity' of an alcohol. This basically translates to one thing - increased smoothness.
Romanov Red with its red bottle gives a perception that the liquid inside might be red as well. However, it is crystal clear as any other vodka. The taste of the brand is amazing. I would rate it higher than Romanov(the parent brand) and White Mischief and comparable to Smirnoff(if not higher)
Priced at an average of Rs. 300 per bottle(750 ml) this drink is definitely for the youth. I see a lot of music events being sponsored by Romanov Red(Rock n India, Lamb of God) and though I am a big fan of such concerts, I would love to Shilpa more often.
