Story:

This fast paced book by Steve Berry is definitely a succesor to ''Da Vinci Code'' by Dan Brown. Steve Berry has managed to succesfully combine the romantic age of russian tsars and the fast paced world of the present day in a wonderful story, which like ''Da Vinci Code'', makes the reader ponder over historical facts. The author has done intensive research in russian history and life. The story begins in Moscow.

The people of Russia vote to restore the monarchy, with a tsar to be chosen among the distant relatives of Nicholas II. Atlanta based black lawyer Miles Lord goes to Moscow to research the claim of the candidate his firm supports. But not long after he arrives in Moscow, two hired gunman from the Russian Mafia shoot at him in a city plaza.

While doing research in the archives of Moscow and St. Petersburg, Lord comes across information which indicates that at least one of the children of Nicholas II might have survived the massacre of the family in 1918, and that there may still be a direct descendant out there. On the train back to Moscow from St. Petersburg, the same two gunmen who had shot at him in Moscow hunt for Lord. A Russian circus acrobat, Akilina Petrovna, saves his life.

Later, the two join forces to look for the heir to the throne. They follow a trail of clues left by a secret organization dedicated to protecting the heir. The clues lead them to many parts of the globe. Every step of the way, they are pursued by members of a villainous organization.
