A.R Rahman The name spells sheer magic for me…And to think of this as his first movie and the brilliance he displayed in this movie was very simple notes but each note ,each tune was simply magical .I was a little girl in school, pigtails n all and as every gud little tamil girl wld do went faithfully to my music classes n stuff but when ROJA came out I still remember even my teacher used to get so carried away that she wld sit n try to gauge the Raagas the song was based on…such was the reach that this album had , so far flung , so profound.
(1)Dil Hai Chota Sa-This is simply sucha a cute number , something probably every little girl ,wld love to sing .The song spoke abt wishes each very small yet so fulfilling in their own way. Dreams of touching the sky, dream of flying high,small , uncomplicated yet beautiful dreams…MInmini did sucha great job on this one…
(2)Rukmini Rukmini-This was one helluva catchy number way back then in the early 90’s I think this was the 1st time suchan extensive musical arrangement was used, The result simply awesum.
(3)Yeh hassen vaadiyan-WOW! This was one number which was so simply mind-blowing in terms of it’s locales, in terms of Madhoo n arvind swamy, the tune n the playback is simply sucha treat, that is typical case of Wordsworth “the Picture flashes upon the eye” even when u catch snatches of the song…One of those all time lovable songs.
(4)Bharath Humko- This is one song which has the potential to make me cry every time I listen to it…The lyrics simply brilliant sumthing every Indian wld obviously sing along with pride. This is sumthing I wld advise in large doses for every true blue Indian not just on Independence n Republic days….Trust me , U can feel the tears stinging ur eyes n the goosebumps, n and a tug at ur heart strings…
(5)Roja Janeman _ this is one another ever hummable number, The coordination so simply superb n well matched that u simply tend to flow along …One thing I love abt this song is that though it speaks of separation n the sorrow is intense ,it is not one of ur typical Run out of the Mill’ Rona Dhona it is dignified even in it’s sorrow n solitude…
On the whole , Roja is sumthing which I first heard as a kid,sumthing which grew on me so much that even today probably 10 years later brings back so many memories along with it that are so precious n bring along contrasting emotions of ‘ glad it happened’ smiles and ‘ iwsh I cld get back there’ Nostalgic tears.
