THE TENNIS MAESTRO. Review on Roger Federer

Friends, I am a big fan of tennis, since I was young. Over the years I have been an avid watcher of several grand slam tournaments like The Wimbledon, The U.S Open, The French Open and The Australian Open till now.Since then I have watched so many great players playing this wonderful game and here I take the opportunity to describe about the current great player of our times Who according to me is Roger Federer.

Roger Federer the tennis maestro was born on 8th August, 1981 in Basel, Switzerland.

Federer as a boy was very emotional and was several times taken out of practice courts. Federer was a talented soccer player too. When he was younger, he liked to watch tennis player Marcelo Rios in action. Federer especially liked Stefan Edberg and Boris Becker and has cited them as idols.

Since the age of six, Federer started playing tennis. At 14, Roger became the national champion of all groups in Switzerland.Federer reached his first final in Marseille which he lost to Marc Rosset and was also the runner-up in Basel. Over the years, he steadily gained ground proving his mettle as a one-handed backhander. He also possesses the power of a swift and deceptive spinning forehand which sometimes proves fatal for his opponent.

Some of his Prominent Features are as under:-

• He had considered becoming a professional soccer player but instead decided to choose tennis.

• Federer launched a fragrance called RF Cosmetics in October 2003. He is also friends with golf superstar Tiger Woods.

• He is appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF in 2006.

• He has since visited Tamil Nadu, one of the most Tsunami-affected areas in India and South Africa.

• He considers Swiss German as his first language, but also speaks French and English fluently and conducts press conferences in all three.

• His most significant achievement was winning his third consecutive Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award, in 2007.

This Swiss born is considered the best tennis player of his generation. With the potential to become the greatest male tennis player ever, Federer has won 12 Grand Slam singles titles (three Australian Open, five Wimbledon, four U.S. Open), 4 Tennis Masters Cup titles, and 14 ATP Masters Series titles. He remained on the number one slot for a consecutive 237 weeks which is a record that any player would envy. Currently he is world no.2 due to stiff opposition from another great player, Rafael Nadal.

In 2000 Sydney Olympics, Federer met Slovakia-born Miroslava Vavrinec (Mirka), who retired from tennis in 2002 after a foot injury. He is currently dating her.

Cool as a cucumber as he always is, due to this attitude of his sometimes his opponents are amused that how can this man be a master of this game? It’s only when the game starts do the opponents realize how they are at the receiving end of all the masterly strokes of this genius that leave them in awe.

Federer is truly a Great Sportsman, A nice human being, A prominent personality and one of the Greatest tennis player of all times.
