Rock On is a movie which brings back memories of a few films. First of all the set up and the screenplay are similar to that of Dil Chahta hai, which I din't like much but then Rock on was different. 4 Friends who want to live their dream of having a music band and they move in the right direction by winning a contest and then getting a contract of a music video and an album.
Then there are differences and the band splits up. Everyone get's involved in their lives until they meet once again by the efforts of Sakshi ( Prachi Gujju Desai ), who is the wife of the lead singer of the band Aditya ( Farhan Akhtar ). The other members Joe ( Arjun Rampal), KD Killer Drummer ( Purab Kohli ) and Rob ( some firang looking guy ) also get themselves in and they start thier efforts to re-live thier dream which they dreamt 10 years ago.
So are they successful or not, is the pursuit and the climax to the movie.The Story may not seem anything special but the Ego clashes shown and the way the protagonists have been handeled in the movie are worth a mention.
Performances : This movie is high on performance levels. Purab Kohli does a brilliant job. Firangi is laudable. Arjun Rampal does well but people are over-rating his performance as they over-rated the performance of his in OSO as well. Farhan Akhtar for a new comer does a great job. He certainly is going to be one of the actors to watch for in future. Though he isn't better than Rajeev Khandelwal but still Farhan ought to give Rajeev tough competition.
Ladies side, Prachi looks good and does well. Much better than what she looks on TV. The girl who played Arjun's wife Debbie is awesome. IMO, the best performer in the movie. Koel is bullshit/ Music is good as we all know but in particular I like the 2 Songs, Rock On ( for its lyrics ) and Tanha.
Overall - A good movie which has a story line which is very very similar to Sanjay Suri, Rahul Bose, Shayan Munshi starrer JHANKAAR BEATS.
