Indian Cinema has come of  age I must say.  I am more into Classic Rock with the likes of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath , Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix ...

The list is of course endless and being a guitarist I always use to wonder is it so hard to show a so called "ROCK STAR" (as we call anybody who is seen on screen holding the guitar and swaying his fingers on the Fret  board with no idea of even holding it ) properly.

After watching the film , which can be considered in the line of all time Rock n Roll classic ALMOST FAMOUS, I gained some satisfaction that there are people with talent and the zeal to perform and get into the character of a rocker or someone with rock n roll lifestyle. The film comes very close to the realities ( as much as can be shown uncensored with a U certificate on Indian screen) of  people who live the rock n roll lifestyle.

Farhan Akhtar (Aditya Shroff) who plays the Vocalist , main poet and the rhythm guitarist did a fantastic job and it is pretty clear that he didn't have to put much effort as he has lived the life of a rocker and is a true rocker by heart.

The characters and the portrayal of them were round and unlike a superhero as we get to see in most of the films. It is not possible without research or if you are not one of them to know the details of musicians , their equipments and emotions. I applaud to the effort put by Purab ( Kedar Zaveri aka K.D.)which was quite convincing. Arjun Rampal (Joe Mascarenhas), of course with his looks in the film, reminded me of Russell Hammond ( Played by Billy Crudup in Almost Famous).  Luke's ( Rob Nancy)character is pretty similar to known musicians in our local circuit who sell their riffs to Music Directors and for jingles.

The film , though it revolves around four significant characters who are friends , also has two females who are a part of the plot and it is on Prachi Desai (Sakshi) to bring them back together for the music which still remains in the heart of the characters and to cut the aloofness of her husband from her. Shahana Goswami(Debbie) on the other hand , who plays long time girlfriend now wife of Rampal, is the sole earner of the family as her husband knows no other job apart from playing music and considers playing guitar for private parties and wedding is not what is he made for. Not to forget Nicollete Bird ( Tanya) , who had a small role however again reminded of Penny Lane ( Kate Hudson) in Almost Famous.

The development of the plot and the way it was handled enthralled the audience as they had never seen something familiar on Indian Screen before ( not to forget Dil Chahta Hai which also revolved around friendship of three friends and their reunion).

As for the soundtrack, I feel that change is coming, the film has certainly made a way for local talents. Rock n Roll is music for the ears who like the raw melody , the music is played live without the aid of a Disc Jockey.  I would like to thank the entire team of the film to put a wonderful effort in bringing out the emotions of a rocker and the MAGIK of the music.
