I saw Rock On on the day it released, 29th August Evening Show with 3 of my friends. I had booked the ticket a Full 15 days before the date (from bookmyshow.com ) and so you can guess how much I expected from the movie. And to say that my expectations were met would be an understatement. The movie was way above anything I expected. I will talk more about that shortly. However, I was dissapointed about certain aspects of the movie :
a. the world in which this band exists is not clear ......there are no scenes showing the Rock music scene around these 4 guys. They are in a shell of their own and have just one other Band to compete with. I dont expect more "Zehreelay" numbers but a clear depiction of whats happening in music scene should have been shown
b. the pace of the movie could have been sleeker. there are scenes that are expeted to be slow and are shot tediosly slow too ....like Prachi Desai finding old pictures of Farhan and gang and acyually pulling down the boxes, holding the pictures and sifting them one by one and then holding the Video tape for agonizingly long time.
c. the above should have been replaced by more humorous times, like a band would have ...more of those dandiya type scenes and more fun moments.
Now for what Rocks the movie inspite of the above :
ARJUN RAMPAL - One of the best performance I have seen from anyone in a hindi movie considering that the crowd had least expectations from someone like him to deliver this knock out performance. Arjun is every inch a RockStar, he always was...only abhishek KApoor allowed hm to play himself . The scenes where Arjun appears on Stage during the first half and Second half ....just tlights up the movie. As the troubled husband brooding over his past Arjun just puts the best actors we have to shame.Look forward to more of you Arjun .........i bet I will buy all your movie tickets 15 days in advance if you promise such superlative performances.
Farhan Akhtar - Bravo!!! First timne at acting and First Time at Singing ...such a huge movie ..and Farhan carries it off with aplomb. I am not a judge on Singing (Sur et al - lets leave all tht judging to the sa re ga ma judges) ....but in a nutshell Farhan Rocks.
Luke Kenny - Amazingly Cool and perfect guy and an ideal friend to hold a group together ..... ;) nothing over the top in his performance...just cool and calm and you wont know this is his acting debut.
Purab performs far above my expectation as I dint knoiw what he is doing in this Rock Movie but he was the live wire of the movie. He got all the funny lines and can thank the director and farhan for that.
Shahana Goswami played her role of an imperfect wife with great ease. good show.
REst of the cast are passable and help the movie rise above the predictable script.....
and the One Person on top of all is JASON WEST ............Brilliant Photography .....he is genius!!!!
So go guys .......Watch On...........
and btw I saw the movie again on Saturday (next day ) and liked it just a little bit more than the previous trip. So guys ...go Rock On.....
Also a suggestion to the producers of the movie - Can we have a DVD version with only the Live Performances of the band with Full Songs and Also the Video we see on TV..... Pleeeaaassseeee!!!
