A hyped up movie that runs on ... well ... hype. Review on Robot

I had the misfortune of watching Endiran, the Tamil version of Robot because one of my collegue is a huge Rajini fan. This movie is one of the most non-cerebral movie of all times and just runs on hype and Rajini hysteria. Paying for the movie was worse than paying income tax! But you cant avoid both, since you have to watch the movie to know how bad it is!

This movie is running houseful in many movie theatres because of the'100 th monkey phenomenon'. Once a critical mass of Rajini fans start'appreciating', the rest of human kind follows. Then parents take children too, thinking they would appreciate and there you lose more money.

Most of the action sequences are poor copy of a mix of hollywood movies, especially the Matrix.(the-red eye-gouge-outscene of terminator I, i-robot etc etc). Computer special effect just look like. well. third rate computer special effects - No realism. Its a tragedy that they wasted so much money on this movie. Just watch that scene of the robot chasing the mosquitos. Aw . I feel miserable, so will you. And dont forget the torture of  that endless fight scene in the train. Can't Indians make original eye catching special effects?

You will really miss the humor of Vivek that just rescued the previous Rajini movie, Sivaji from total un-watcheability. Aishwarya looks like she is in for bonded slave labour for kissing Rajini. Anything for money isnt it?

Some of the landscape picuturisation and songs are ok.   Thats about it. Perhaps the'success' of the movie may be a case study for viral advertisement, promotions and paid reviews.

May be many of us do not write reviews criticizing such movies out of misplaced respect for Rajini and his countless(robotic) fans. But please do write and stop this mania. At the very least acheive a little bit of catharsis writing a negative review this third rate film deserves.
