As far as I am concerned, by leaving Robin Singh out of the team, India lost a committed cricketer and a gentleman sports person. Regardless of his abilities, He was dumped from the side because he belonged to a less favourable state, Tamil Nadu.
The selectors tried in vain to defend their decision to dump Robin saying that they were to groom youngsters like Reetinder singh Sodhi who we are now not able to find out where he is. Again they took into the team a youngster, Sanjay Bangar (aged 32), in Robin's place as an allrounder.
There is no explanation from the selectors or the BCCI, why they left Robin in the cold for seven long years from 1989 when they dumped him after the tour of WIndies, where he played in only one match?
They can say that he didn't play well in that match.
Why this discrimination when players from Mumbai, Karnataka, Delhi and Kolkata are given chances again and again even when they fail? The same is the case of Sriram, T.Kumaran, Sharath...etc., Agarkar failed after that initial purple patch. He scored 6 ducks in as many innings in Australia, took paltry no. of wickets there and he was a failure. But the team management and selectors persisted with him because he is favoured by Sachin.
Being out of the team is not Robin's loss, it is the loss for the team and the country.
