I am huge fan of driving cars, and what more pleasurable than driving it all night. So here I was on a fine evening, suddenly decided to take on a road trip to Bangalore from Hyderabad. I set out at 10:00 pm towards the banagalore highway, the city traffic took me more than an hr just to reach the highway, from then on the journey was far more smooth and fun!! Night time driving has its own pros and cons. Before getting to the actual journey, il list down a few things we need to check before leaving on any road trip.

I was driving a diesel car, pretty sure this check list will be same for a petrol car as well,

  1. Tyre pressure. 2. Pollution check 3. NOC (if you are travelling interstate) 4. General Engine health 5. Fill the fuel tank (extremely important) 6. Check the condition of the spare tyre.I learned the facts rather late and just got the pollution check and filled the fuel tank. Once I was on the highway, it was a totally different experience, the gushing winds (i kept my windows down for the most part) and the silent night was more than making up for the inadequate lights on the road.Half way through my journey, I realized that the fuel calculations went wrong and I need to fill fuel sooner than later. The next few kms were the most anxious as I could literally see the fuel indicator drop below the E mark and there was no sign of any petrol stations. -- lesson learned, please do check the route of your trip and know about the petrol stations and their distances, fill in accordingly.

Early morning, when I was nearing Bangalore, there was dense fog in the air which drastically reduced visibility. All of a sudden I realized I flew over a speed breaker and landed quite harshly on the road. I got down the car to see that my front left tyre rim got bent and I needed to change the complete rim. I started to remove the screws and got the spare tyre out of the boot to see that it was flat and couldnt be driven with. I had no other option, so fitted the flat tyre (flat tyre better than a bent one), drove very slowly till the next service station, got the tyre fixed. -- lesson learned, please do check the health of the spare tyre!!!

But inspite of all these hurdles, the road trip was a fantastic experience, totally worth the pains!! Next time I set out to do something similar, I am sure I will be better prepared.

Even if a couple of people benefit from this article, the purpose will be served.
