Isn't R2020 about sacrifices?
The revolution is just in the title of the book, that's what I felt when I finished this one. This book stayed in my head almost for 5 days, I saw the movie ‘The adventures of TinTin’ the same evening I finished the book, but my mind was so much in the book that I was physically in the theatre, but my brain was doing what Gopal says in the book,
It is amazing how the brain will connect one thought to another until it gets to where it wants to be.
-
Am I a good person, says Gopal to Chetan, and I felt irritated by this. He wanted to show off the money he had, and how big a person he was. Chetan ignored him in the beginning, so did I.
But once the journey started, it was Gopal, Gopal and Gopal.
Gopal - A young boy who LOVES Aarti, and that's it.
Raghav - Only to make the title of the book relevant.
Aarthi - Confused, but unfortunate not to get Gopal.
Guys, don't curse that I have put in the spoilers, this has been mentioned in the prologue, so don't you worry about this, you will still enjoy it.
R 2020 is based on the corrupt system that India has and will have all its life, it is about the love of Gopal for Aarti, love of Raghav for country, and Aarti, well she, as I said is confused throughout. The connection, the moments, and the time that Gopal and Aarti shared together will make your eyes moist.
This is a love story more than a revolution, and you won't fckng care about the revolution.
“Aarti had no idea what effect her wavering had on Gopal and Gopal the loser, even if didn’t not have a brain, has a heart. And what Raghav must know is that Stupid people go to college. Smart people own them.”
So the core of the story is Love, but I feel what CB said that both the boys loved the same girl, is not what it actually is, I did not find a moment where Raghav seems to love Aarti, it was Aarti who was in love with him, Raghav just wanted to have a revolution.
I did enjoy it and it left me sad, but in the end, I actually said, yes Gopal, you are a good man, but why the f*ck did you sacrifice your Aarti whom you wanted all you life and almost got her.
Raghav did not deserve Aarti, and Raghav's revolution wouldn't have been possible without Gopal's sacrifice. He loved Aarti all his life and yet in the end, he ended up loosing her. He hated Raghav, but ended up giving him his own life. It was not Raghav who bought the revolution; it was Gopal who eventually did.
One of the comments over the internet rightly said, that it should have been subtitled love.corruption.ambition.SACRIFICE
and if you really want to be happy in the end, please do not read the last 20 pages, or if you do, it will stay in your head for a long time. I am still not over it.
I would love to see a sequel(a very short one though) which begins when Gopal is at his home dreaming about the little boy he saw in Raghav's office, and Gopal ends up getting Aarti. I want to see Aarti Mishra, not Aarti Kashyap. Let Raghav bring his revolution, but Aarti belongs to Gopal. And it reminds me the lines from the book
“How can girls pretend that nothing happened? Do they erase stuff from their brains, brush it aside, or are they just good actors? “One of the best in the book.
“Sometimes losers get ahead in life. Never forget that.” - Gopal never had anything, he never wanted to earn ONLY money, all he wanted was Aarti, but “One stupid exam, half a dozen mistakes in multiple-choice problems changes your life forever.” And even after that, when he had all the money and bright future with his college “Maybe that innocent, good part of us never dies – we just trample upon it for a while” I wish he would have killed that good part of his to get Aarti.
Gopal, you said “A few jabs at the heart are better than a complete nervous breakdown. “And you should have remembered that “Life may not offer you the same chance twice”but yes, I agree with you that “Sometimes your heart can lead you to a dead end.”
And for all of us, who are sad at the climax, remember, “Losers don’t get things easily. Marks, ranks, girls – nothing is easy for us.”
